Marion County to relocate Confederate flag by mid-May (FL)

Six months have passed since the County Commission agreed to take the Confederate flag away from the front of the McPherson Governmental Complex, obtain a different version of the flag, and fly that new version elsewhere on the campus ...

But today the Confederate flag is still flying in the same place ...

Community activist Delphine Herbert, an outspoken critic of the County Commission's plan, said the Confederate flag has not yet been moved "because inertia is one of the techniques by which those in office resist any change which might compromise their power base."

"Our county commissioners operate as if Ocala/Marion County was still a small sleepy Southern enclave inhabited mainly by good ol' boys rather than an ever increasingly diverse population of almost a third of a million people who come not only from the north but from the far reaches of the world," she continued.

There are still those who cling to the Confederacy as though it is still a golden promise to the South.

Besides, I'm sure the beautiful weather here has just deterred them and they'll get to it any day now. <sarcasm>
