Important Democratic Party Business

Tomorrow at 10 AM, I'll be at our DFL (Democratic) Party's state senate district convention as a delegate. We won't be dealing in any way with the presidential race, but we'll be doing very important business. We'll be voting to endorse candidates for our state Senator and House member. We'll also be electing delegates to our Congressional District convention, where the order of business will be to endorse a candidate for our federal House representative and electing delegates to our state convention.

That's the real business of state and local party organizations. We help present voters with the best possible choices for legislative races. Even though the President plays a strong role in federal government, he or she can do little without legislators passing legislation. In the state, our legislators play a huge role in how our own state will be governed.

There's much more to the 2016 elections than the presidential race. That's why I'm active in my local, district, and state DFL party organization. That's why I recommend that everyone who cares about governance get involved with Democratic party organizations where they live.

Government isn't just an every four year presidential election. There are even more important races down the ballot, and that's what local and state party organizations are all about. I encourage everyone to get involved as much as they are able. It's one way to have an actual, real effect on how our government works and who is elected to serve us.

All it takes is contacting your local Democratic Party organization and asking how you can be involved. They'll be glad to hear from you. Too few people take part.

Get active! Get involved! Make a difference!

Legislators have more effect on our daily lives than the President ever does.

That's why I'm involved. I can't have much effect on the presidential election, but I can in other elections. So can we all.

Most important part of being a Delegate. This is where the real rubber meets the road. Have a great one.

I'm up for election to my state senate district's board, too. I'm sure I'll get on the board this year. That will give me more opportunities to do work that helps Democrats get elected.

if I'd be willing to run. Typically in our district, the slate of nominees is simply voted in by acclamation. If not, I guess I'll have to get up and say a few words before the voting.
