UK Guardian: Which country has the world's best healthcare system? "US scores poorly..."

Guardian Reporters, 9 Feb 2016

US

Upfront payments: yes

Data: the US scores poorly on many fronts, ranked 11th out of 11 in the Commonwealth Fund 2014 list. And yet it far outstrips all its peers in terms of the amount it spends on healthcare – a whopping 17% of GDP....snip

...For the rest, standards are generally high, sometimes among the best in the world. But no matter how good the insurance policy, few Americans can escape the crushing weight of payments bureaucracy, or the risk-averse medical practices that flow from a fear of lawsuits.

Almost all visits to the doctor (often a specialist, rather than general practitioner) will generate “co-pays” for the patient and revenue streams for the physician that some fear encourages excessive testing and intervention: a consumer, rather than care-led, culture.

Preventive medicine and public health are harder to incentivise. Patchy access to insurance can leave emergency rooms clogged with chronic conditions. Obesity and mental illness often go entirely untreated.

Though the system fosters excellence and innovation in places, the messy combination of underinsurance and overinsurance has left the US with the highest healthcare costs in the developed world and some of the worst overall health outcomes...snip

"Health Care Reform Will Be Uniquely American" -Sen. Max Baucus, who is spearheading health care reform from the helm of the Senate Finance Committee, said: "We are not Europe. We are not Canada...We need a uniquely American solution. It has to be a partnership of public and private players." (Washington Post, 5/11/09)

Max Baucus (a "Democrat&quot then went on to have Single Payer advocates arrested on Capitol Hill. Baucus was rewarded for this incredible feat by being named Ambassador to China. Thanks MAX!

Big Pharma and the Health Insurance Industry. Who makes this all possible? The U.S. government. Disgraceful!! Now, which candidates for president are those two mega industries bankrolling? Why have Americans gone along with this all these years? Doesn't say much for our brain power. Or maybe we're just "pragmatists." What a tragic farce.

Turns out Mitt Romney designed a shit Healthcare plan.

'"Something has to give,” said Larry Levitt, an expert on the health law at the Kaiser Family Foundation. “Either insurers will drop out or insurers will raise premiums.”

While analysts expect the market to stabilize once premiums rise and more young, healthy people sign up, some observers have not ruled out the possibility of a collapse of the market, known in insurance parlance as a “death spiral.”

In the short term, there is a growing likelihood that insurers will push for substantial premium increases, creating a political problem for Democrats in an election year.

Insurers have been pounding the drum about problems with ObamaCare pricing.'

Even on the television program "The Good Wife" took a slap at the US healthcare system from a Canadian judge tonight.

There has bee several leave the legislature to work for the Medical industry. Just a little pay back from when they were in office.

Don't tell me: The US is a delicate and special snowflake. Correct?

You know, the concept of a large-scale health-insurance for the whole population was invented in Germany in the late 19th century.
It's a european invention.
I'm not sure whether the US should copy the concept of an "insurance" at all.
Maybe the US should come up with their own invention. Something not as european as "insurance".
