But that doesn't look as good as internet meme, so I guess we can ignore it.

(6,148 posts)When other species fight to the death, it's usually about mating rights. From what I've seen, when a non-human "tribe" finds food scarce, they go looking for more. They don't fight to the death over it.

(719 posts)Humans obviously have a strong genetic predilection to divide ourselves into factions.
If it wasn't race or religion, we'd find some other reason to do it.
Getting rid of these categories would solve nothing.
We need to accept our differences and rise above them in awareness that, though we may disagree, we are better off when we work together.

(54,020 posts)All you negatives are like that... O-negs, A-negs, even those supposedly "enlightened" B-negs. Why don't you all go back to where people with your Rhesus antigen belong?! Our Founding Fathers meant this to be a positive antigen country. Either change to our ways or go home!!
that graphic is rather kumbaya.

(53,521 posts)The "natural" scale of human life is a tribe of about 150 people divided into several clans of 20-30 people. 150 is the max number you can personally know. Religion made settlements of larger than 150 people possible by making people afraid of divine punishment if they wronged people in their community they did not know.

We had a "them" concept way back as small bands of hunter/gatherers.
Humans never had the concept of "one people" and probably never will.

(18,124 posts)makes us all of one race, doesn't it? Or I'm crazy? Religion, politics and money. All are used to divde us to keep one certain group 'in charge'. People better start getting real about who is causing the calamity(s) WE ALL are facing. One race, the human race is in danger from the agendas and lust for power and control of us all......a lot of those sitting at the top of the three evils mentioned above want us to judge and sooner or later kill in the name of superficial differences, race, sex, sexual orientation and religion being the most used tools. And we are using those tools, efficiently, worldwide, daily.

(65,616 posts)The authoritarians will always have us as a thorn in their side. And every generation after. Just too much bullshit to real now and known as fact. South America is unraveling and will join in multilateral takeovers from China etc.. It is important to remember what has happened. For many it is JFK. For me being younger it is 9/11.
Blame life right Octa? They pretend reality is some plot. Oh wait...it all happened. I've changed my mind, history does not have a liberal slant, history is totally neutral. Just there to record passively. That is why so many Rovan agents are hard at working scrubbing facts. They keep the shit that works for them. Hell they are all still Pinkerton agents at heart, so many still don't realize how brutal and barbaric Trump and Cruz zombies are for blood. Also all those confused libertarians and neo-liberals and neo-fascists following around Trump and all the crazy fundie begging for the Rapture Cruz lovers.
And of course the M$M constant babblefish too bad for them we won't ever forget right? The WWW will be here forever. They cannot control it. They cannot control us.

(274 posts)Created by man, many, many moons ago. Nothing divides humans more. It instructs people how to think and act for fear of retribution. As long as our planet is still habitable, things will get better in direct proportion to the waning of faith. Hey at least we don't burn witches like we used to. PS. Some people think they need it to cope, realty can be tough stuff at times. There is a lot of positive instructions in those holy books. it's the other stuff that sux.

(6,148 posts)That the purpose of early religion was to allow smaller groups to band together. You may think that religion divides, but at the same time, it unites those within it. So, it fits both cases.

(20,219 posts)Almost every human culture, starting with earliest findings, practiced a gender based power system. Men=powerful. Women=subservient.
Look how gender didn't even seem important enough to the meme-maker to include! Violence and discrimination against women is at epidemic levels worldwide, yet it didn't even register in the m-m's consciousness.

(22,813 posts)...and unclassified. First we were small clans that fought to the death to protect hunting grounds and food sources from other clans. The better organized and smarter ones with better weapons survived. Wealth became a thing as soon as we developed agriculture and started living together in much larger communities that could accumulate and store wealth. There never was a Golden Age of harmony and cooperation.

MrScorpio
(73,631 posts)...Of race, class, religion, political affiliation and gender.
The entire history of this country is a story of the struggle to overcome the inequality of these differences. And we're not even close to resolving any of it.
When you think about humanity, the first thing that you need to ask yourself is, "Who is humanity representative of?" Are we talking about, rich, straight, white, land-owning males here? Because in our founding as a nation, it was only these people who were fully franchised citizens.
Today, we're still greatly divided by many of the same divisions, only altered to accommodate a modern form and function. White supremacy, patriarchy, oligarchy, straight normality and Christian dominance aren't going away anytime soon, simply because of the unearned privileges and unequal amount of power that each of them confer to one group over others.
Until those who retain the privilege and power are either forced to share, or decide to share on their own, don't expect it to change anytime soon, in spite of the struggles of the disenfranchised. Those struggles are necessary and well worth it, but they can also end up being futile instead.
If you have power and privilege, the two hardest things to do with them are both recognizing that you retain such power and privilege and also sharing that power and privilege with those who are disenfranchised.
So, this begs the question... Who is that message for?
