http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/texas-nationalist-movement-secession-resolutionsTen of the counties confirmed to the newspaper that the resolutions passed at their conventions, but an official count is not expected until May. That goes to show the Texas Nationalist Movement has gained some momentum since 2012, when a secession resolution passed at just one county convention, according to the Chronicle.
A party committee will consider introducing the resolutions at the state GOP convention, which is scheduled to take place May 12-14 in Dallas. But secession is expected to be shot down at the convention, the newspaper reported.
The secession issue has cropped up time and time again in the Lone Star State. In December, Texas Republicans failed to pass a measure that would've asked residents whether they wanted to secede on a ballot in the state's primary.

Texas' military installations:
Provide an economic impact of more than $148 billion to the Texas economy
Account for 6 percent of the state's economic activity
Employ more than 255,000 military and defense-related civilian personnel
http://thetexaseconomy.org/economic-outlook/economy/articles/article.php?name=military_bases
These figures do not include the Defense contractors and manufacturing plants.
-In the event of secession there will be one hell of a lot of unemployed Texans as the federal government closes the bases and moves the troops and their families out of Texas, and relocates the defense industries to loyal states.
-In a world awash with cheap oil, and moving at an ever increasing pace toward renewable energy, the rest of the country can easily do without their oil. Let them sell it at todays market prices to China.
-in a world of free trade we don't need their beef or farm products. They can sell it on the world market without federal agricultural subsides.
Texas will not secede, and not just for economic reasons. The majority of Texans are loyal to the UNITED STATES, and Texas is on the verge of turning blue. I expect that having Julian Castro as HRC's VP will fasten the move to blue.

(82,849 posts)But Republicans are nothing if not persistent with their stupidity. "No way Congress will let the federal budget sequester go into effect." Boy, was I wrong about that one! "Sure, those Sagebrush Rebellion types talk a good game about public lands, but no way will they ever face down federal agents and especially not bearing arms." Wrong again. "No, endorsing torture and locking people up indefinitely without charge or trial is something the United States stands foursquare against. That's Soviet Union stuff, there." Fu-u-u-u-u-uck.

(145,321 posts)First the Texas GOP is full of crazy people and if you want to have fun read some past Texas GOP party platforms. These platforms are far to the right of the normal GOP. For example, the Texas GOP just recently dropped the plank reinstating the Texas sodomy law (ruled invalid in 2003 by Lawrence v. Texas) in favor of these provisions: http://www.texasgop.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/2014-Platform-Final.pdf
Homosexuality- Homosexuality is a chosen behavior that is contrary to the fundamental
unchanging truths that have been ordained by God in the Bible, recognized by our nations
founders, and shared by the majority of Texans. Homosexuality must not be presented as an
acceptable alternative lifestyle, in public policy, nor should family be redefined to include
homosexual couples. We believe there should be no granting of special legal entitlements or
creation of special status for homosexual behavior, regardless of state of origin. Additionally,
we oppose any criminal or civil penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith,
conviction, or belief in traditional values.
Reparative Therapy- We recognize the legitimacy and efficacy of counseling, which offers
reparative therapy and treatment for those patients seeking healing and wholeness from their
homosexual lifestyle. No laws or executive orders shall be imposed to limit or restrict access to
this type of therapy.
Second, any county/senate district convention can propose resolutions. In my SD convention for the Democratic party, we passed resolutions on (i) restoring voting rights act, (ii) banning voter id laws, (iii) legalizing marijuana, (iv) allowing local communities to ban fracking, (v) supporting gay rights and (vi) despite my objections, reinstating Glass Steagall. The legalization of Marijuana as been in the party platform since 2014 and my county/SD convention passed this resolution in 2010, 2012 and 2014. Just because a county convention passes a resolution does not mean that it will make it into the party platform.
Third, the Texas state GOP convention will have open carry. I am trying to start a pool as to how many discharges of weapons and how many people are shot.
Texas republicans are crazy which is why we are working so hard to turn Texas blue.

(2,566 posts)Wtf is wrong with them, I've never once given a crap or much thought toward what other consenting adults do for sex fun or who they want to partner with in love.
it's so freaking creepy how they obsess about it.
In 10th grade in the 80's, a boy down the street from me told me he was gay. He was part of a group of neighborhood kids I knew, we hung around riding bikes and just doing dumb stuff after school and in the summers. That was the first person I knew that was gay. My first thoughts were, oh that's why you like to help me with my hair and makeup, and the second was...omg, how cool to have a gay guy friend - the best of both worlds. Lol
He came out that year, and in a high school of 1,000 people, he was not picked on, bullied or made fun of. Everyone just accepted it. And this was in East Texas in early 80's. All the girls wanted to be his friend, the guys liked him too.
He went on to work for MTv after he graduated, became a big deal there and came to the 10 year reunion in a limo.
Why 30 years later is it such a big deal to the wackos? Because of all the progress I guess, the Neanderthals are screaming their heads off about it. I can't for the life of me understand what the hell is wrong with them. I don't believe it has anything to do with the RR claiming interest because it's a 'sin', there's a ton more 'sins' to call people out on, this bizarre focus on the 'gay sin' is creepy, it's like a mental illness or something.

(29,414 posts)A handful of Texas Republican district or county conventions in March passed resolutions calling for a vote on secession, paving the way for a potentially awkward debate at the state GOP conference in May.
A Nederland-based pro-independence activist group, the Texas Nationalist Movement, said at least 22 of the hundreds of conventions passed secession items. Texas GOP chairman Tom Mechler said he "would be very surprised" if that many had indeed passed the conventions.
The Houston Chronicle reached out to GOP officials in the counties listed by the Nationalist Movement. Ten responded and all confirmed passage of the resolutions. An official count should be available from the Republican Party of Texas in early May.

(from antigop's post in the Texas group)
I always find it so odd when I see "liberals" here supporting the secession of any state. Part of the reason for the Civil War was to not allow the Union to be broken up. Lincoln's primary purpose was to save the Union.
And yet, here y'all are...
