In a long piece about the sex and fraud scandal (along with other trouble) that engulfed Alabama Governor Robert J. Bentley recently, Washington Post writer Neely Tucker reflects on the bizarre spectacle that may unfold shortly:
Eighteen months after he was indicted on allegations of using his office for personal gain and soliciting things of value [link], House Speaker Mike Hubbard, a powerful leader in the state Republican Party, is finally going on trial. Bentley is expected to be a witness. Should impeachment proceedings come to pass, they would be overseen by state Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore, who was removed from office in 2003 for defying federal orders to remove a stone monument of the Ten Commandments from the rotunda of the states Judicial Building.

OP
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)1. Impeachment proceedings being held in a prison yard
And even at that, Alabamans wouldn't recognize Republican corruption.

gratuitous
(82,849 posts)3. I'm referring to the majority of Alabamans
You know, the ones who keep returning these mountebanks to office: "What? Doesn't every state have its Governor, House Speaker, and Chief Justice behind bars?"

I heard on NPR today about their President's impeachment, and one issue is everyone in the line of succession is also corrupt and under investigation. There may be a movement in Brazil just to keep the current President until the next election because everyone else is just as bad. Same thing in Alabama.
