(1,074 posts)I would wager though that most of the viewers of that show can't read. So for all intents and purposes it remains untold....

But she can read very well.
I guess it's similar to watching wrestling for some people.

Never, ever lend money. If you can afford to give what someone needs without expectation of repayment, and if you can give it and pretty much forget about it, fine. But the expectation of repayment destroys relationships. Has proved to be very good advice in practical use.

(18,318 posts)Loaned money is usually given money.
Tools are never returned.
Loaned cars come back damaged.

The worst part of it, the deadbeat ALWAYS turns the moral onus on the sucka who loaned the money/item.

(5,325 posts)But as they say about loving someone, when I give money, it is set free. If it comes back, cool. If not, well, I never really had such expectations anyway.

(16,334 posts)when it was Judge Wapner presiding. Those were actual cases but the parties agreed to arbitration in the form of the tv show. I knew the show paid the fines and thought the winning party got to keep more of the money but I was never clear on that. There had to be a reason people agreed to it!
I don't remember if it was the newer people's court or Judge Judy but I saw an episode and the people were from the Midwest or something. I thought what the heck are they doing there? Then you could surmise they were sought after and not real cases in California.

Ex Lurker
(3,814 posts)He was a witness on behalf of his "much younger" girlfriend who was having a dispute with her landlord. There was no mention of who he was, but that face was unmistakeable.

(1 post)I was out of town working and my wife was getting her PHD at UCLA. We lived in Venice Beach and this was back in 85 or 86. Wife came home from school late and someone was in her assigned parking space. After looking for another space, sh3e eventually di what and former Long Island resident with a 6'6" husband would do and parked behind him, (blocking him in) and emptying a trash can on his car. Wife came out next morning and her car had been towed. Since Tony, our friend and next door neighbor, was serving as property manager since our landlord was in Morocco on business, he went to the Peoples Court to act as her witness even though he really didn't want to as he is till this day very recognizable. Judge Wapner didn't recognize Tony even though Doug Lewellyn did and most people in the court room as well. Judge even said to Tony, "Why do you look familiar, have you appeared before me previous?'
Had it taped on Beta HiFi but lost it over time. Tony was then and is still married to Lauren, he was just trying to help out. Love to find a copy of the tape, no longer married to her but it was hilarious. She did win her case

(11,856 posts)and the litigants are real people culled at courthouses throughout the country.
The winners are paid the settlement and the losers are compensated w/ a lesser amount plus their expense. If the plaintiff loses, the defendant gets a set amount.
This has been the formula for all court shows from the beginning of The Peoples Court.
I was sued and appeared on the show.
