Texas church asks members to pay $500 to drink pesticide ‘elixir’ to cure erectile dysfunction

http://www.rawstory.com/2016/04/texas-church-asks-members-to-pay-500-to-drink-pesticide-elixir-to-cure-erectile-dysfunction/comments/

A bizarre “non-religious” church in Texas is set to hold an event this weekend in which participates will drink a potentially-fatal chemical found in pesticides because the organization’s leader claims it holds the power to heal conditions including erectile dysfunction, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Jim Humble, the archbishop of Genesis 2 Church of Health and Healing, hawks “Miracle Mineral Supplement” as a cure-all for cancer, AIDS, arthritis, malaria, acne, erectile dysfunction and other ailments, the Chronicle reports. The catch? It’s made from sodium chlorite — a chemical used in pesticides, fracking and fabric bleaching.

It can be deadly if swallowed. Yet participants will fork over $500 a head for a three-day seminar at a Houston-area hotel to learn about the supposed health benefits of the “the world’s most important broad-spectrum, nontoxic anti-microbial agent.”...

The octogenarian claims to have discovered the elixir while on a mining expedition in South America. He also believes he can create gold and platinum by manipulating water, the Chronicle reports.

These particular suckers might die off every minute to make room for new ones.

these people have already reproduced. It's like if they survive the usual stupidities of adolescence they're safe until well into their 30s.

The accounts of people giving this caustic stuff orally or AS AN ENEMA to screaming non-verbal children over and over again because they think their bowels are damaged (this is an offshoot of Wakefield's nonsense) and fixing them with industrial bleaching agent will make them neurotypical? They're heartbreaking.

Here's a much better account: as usual Raw Story's garbled nonsense barely resembles the actual story. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-33079776

I never made the connection with bleaching teh autism away!

As for Raw Story's garbled nonsense, I tried the link to the Houston Chronicle provided, but it's behind a g.d. paywall.

From The Guardian (UK): https://www.theguardian.com/science/2010/sep/15/miracle-mineral-solutions-mms-bleach

When 15-year-old Rhys Morgan was diagnosed with Crohn's disease a few months ago he turned to the internet for help, and came across the Crohn's Disease Forum, a website offering support to patients. "I was looking for a support forum, a community of people with same illness as me and some on the same meds as me."

He followed the site for a while and noticed a disturbing undercurrent of people trying to push alternative medicines to members. One product in particular was called Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS), and its website claimed it cured cancer, Aids, malaria, and basically most things short of actual death.

Curious to know more about it, Rhys decided to Google it, and came across the following US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning:

"The product, when used as directed, produces an industrial bleach that can cause serious harm to health. The product instructs consumers to mix the 28 percent sodium chlorite solution with an acid such as citrus juice. This mixture produces chlorine dioxide, a potent bleach used for stripping textiles and industrial water treatment. High oral doses of this bleach, such as those recommended in the labeling, can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and symptoms of severe dehydration."

By the way, this is Rhys Morgan:

And here he is getting an award from the James Randi Education Foundation from James Randi himself at TAM London in 2010:

He has a Wiki page, too.

It seems that religious kooks are into pouring shit down people's throats. it doesn't fool my man Rhys!

My best to you.

Anyone who uses the phrase "miracle cure" is selling bullshit, plain and simple.
