You Have To Be Insane To Drive Your Car This Close To A Tornado near Wray, CO

Tornadoes. When you see a warning about them on the weather channel, it usually advises you to take shelter or get on out of there. But some folks are into chasing those storms, and we end up with extreme close ups of a phenomenon that a lot of us would rather not venture out to get for ourselves.

At any rate, this video will make you both clinch your teeth in nervousness and be completely captivated at the same time. The footage is from a tornado near Wray, Colorado that touched down over the weekend. According to NBC, at least five people sustained injuries and the twister was half of a mile wide. Reports of several other tornadoes in the area came in around the same time.

Here’s the video captured by the folks who chose to drive into that chaos:

I live in northern Colorado, about an hour south of Cheyenne WY. We got alerts all afternoon, lots of rain, hail in some areas, very loud thunder. When the sky goes that dark and turns those colors in the middle of the day, you know something is going to happen. On such days I'm thankful for my 'garden level' apartment.

Dr. Reed Timmer is very dedicated to meteorology and studying the most extreme weather. Incredible footage.

Many blessings to those affected by that storm.

I didn't know he finally got his doctorate. I haven't been paying attention as much since I started working (I used to do the whole storm chasing streaming thing all the time when I was in school). I've seen him in many, many chases get ridiculously close. He's usually pretty good at just knowing when to get out. Hope his luck never runs out!
