California's RNC delegates not happy with their hour-long commute from Sandusky

No California Love? California's Republican National Convention delegates are "chafing at the cheap seats they're getting for the Republican National Convention in Cleveland," according to CNN.

As previously reported by cleveland.com, the California delegation is staying in Sandusky, about an hour west of downtown Cleveland. And Ronald Reagan's home state is none too pleased.

"We're pretty bitter about that," Harmeet Dhillon, vice chairwoman of the California Republican Party, told CNN. "It sucks to be California, we're like the ugly stepchild. They need us for our cash and our donors, they don't need us for anything else."

He Shupes, he scores: A fun nugget within the CNN story: Matt Shupe, a California GOP operative, will be staying with a friend in Cleveland who is also named Matt Shupe.

The two Shupes connected by doing what everyone did back when Facebook was new (here's looking at you, Andrew Tobias of Greensboro, North Carolina) — by finding people who shared his name and adding them as friends.

"When all this kinda happened I said, 'Hey, I know someone in Cleveland,'" California Shupe said, according to CNN. "So I started talking to him and his wife and they said I can come and stay with them."

The California delegation is like 1,000 people. Why the fuck would these dumbasses wait until the last minute to book rooms for the biggest event in Cleveland??

I feel no sadness for them.

The RNC and DNC both assign hotels and seating areas to delegations, the states don't have a say.

Need meeting rooms and stuff. And it sounds as if they need a bus shuttle! Did anyone think of this 18 months ago? My Dem club has been talking about Philly for a long time now. Most of us cannot afford to go because the CA contingent is in a huge hotel that costa a huge amount per night. CA RNC sounds not very sophisticated.

Maybe they RNC assigned the hotels. not sure how it works over there.

Living on the west side of Cleveland, I will go out and wave at them every day as they go past.

Dems have a few states who always go first, CA is one of them because of the size of the delegation. Then other hotels are chosen by states on a rotating basis i.e. if Indiana goes first one year, they would be last the next time or something like that. Do not know how RNC does it. But I love the idea of you waving!!

Didn’t find it as bad I expected.

We were staying in Fullerton and spent 2 of our days north, west and downtown. One day we went from Burbank to Studio City and back again. We met all of out ETA's.

But I am not totally unfamiliar with California driving.

I can state with confidence that the drive to & from Sandusky will be like a walk in the park.

would be the most direct route from Quicken Arena to Sandusky. 80 cuts SE from Cleveland south of Lorain.

The Texas legislature doesn't think so, at least when they're talking about women trying to see a doctor. Note to California delegation: Suck it up, buttercups. No call to be bitter, now.
