Haven't heard about this recently - but remember a survey of Americans, asking, to relieve debt....what state would you sell? Hate to say this for you cool people...but the one that got the most votes was NJ

(23,156 posts)like Kansas, or maybe North Dakota. Then we could charge extra for the new owners to cross all the American territory they'll have to cross just to get there! We could build toll roads -- jobs and then income from tolls -- or high speed train routes -- more jobs and then we'll charge them to operate in the rest of the country.
This could be a win-win. We'd divest ourselves of some one of the not-very-popular states, which mostly don't have too many people in them anyway, so we would hardly notice they were gone. And if, for instance, France were to buy the state, just think how amazing it will be when a few years from now everyone remaining in Kansas, or North Dakota as the case may be, will be speaking fluent French!
What could possibly go wrong? Who could ever object?

(50,559 posts)Because it's kinda just stuck onto the bottom of the country selling it wouldn't affect traffic flow in the rest of the country. All that's down there are gators, snakes, invasive species and Florida Men. It's got lots of pretty beaches to attract potential buyers, so we should be able to get a good price for it.
