May 12, 2016 4:34 pm ·
Fox News host Bill OReilly and Fox Business host Lou Dobbs made a pathetically lame attempt to defend Donald Trumps hesitance to release his tax returns. In doing so, they made a disgraceful comparison between the presumptive Republican nominee and Jesus Christ.
On OReillys show, Dobbs came to the business moguls defense:
Why should he turn over his tax returns when hes being audited? He is facing a hostile national media that no matter how pristine those returns, its going to find something to pick at and blow up. And then use it as some shiny object to distract from the issue.
OReilly pointed out that releasing those documents would be a good move on Trumps part, considering that his honesty was questioned by partisans. It would not only be a good idea it would be standard practice. Trump is now the first nominee not to disclose his tax returns since 1976. Even former President Richard Nixon, who was under audit, didnt hesitate to release his tax returns a fact that makes Trumps secrecy look more shady than ever.
Dobbs pushed logic aside and said, After the first billion, I lose interest. He also failed to answer OReilly when he asked if there was anything that Dobbs hadnt liked about Trumps campaign. Dobbs refused to give him a straight answer, because youd be just like the rest of those guys in the national media, you just focus on it.
OReilly pushed back and said, Im asking you as an analyst. You are not willing to say one thing. When Dobbs continued to dance around the question, OReilly yelled:
If he is Jesus, how can you analyze him?
Dobbs said, How can I analyze him? Because I have a superior mind that competes at least fairly favorably with your own.
OReilly giggled and replied with something truly idiotic:
Okay. Lets just recap. According to Dobbs, Donald Trump is Jesus. And Jesus never put out his tax returns! Ever!
Dobbs completely threw all intelligence out the window when he said, Thats a line that I can actually agree with.

(16,423 posts)IIRC rabbis asked Jesus whether it's just for Jews to pay roman taxes, as the roman emperors are depicted on the coins and as they are worshipped as gods at the same time. They wanted to trick him into making a religious statement why it's wrong to pay roman taxes because it's implicitly worship of roman gods. By tricking him into such a statement, they could have ratted him out to the Romans for rebellion.
Jesus' answer was: Give God what is God's. Give Caesar what is Caesar's.
Translated: Your religion and the law are two different things.
EDIT: I just read it up. My recollection wasn't entirely correct. Resistance to paying the tax was a political issue to begin with, not a religious issue.
