Facebook apologies for plus-size ad ban

By Zoe Kleinman
Technology reporter, BBC News

23 May 2016 Technology

Facebook has apologised after refusing to run an advert featuring plus-sized model Tess Holliday wearing a bikini.

The social network told the BBC it had made a mistake and has now approved the image.

Australian feminist group Cherchez La Femme had expressed fury after Facebook rejected their advert for an event designed to promote body positivity.

Originally the social network told them the advert "depicts a body... in an undesirable manner".

While the event page was not taken down, the advert to promote it was not approved.

I can't imagine anyone on earth desiring to look like that.

The normalization of obesity is inexcusable, and she's one of the movements biggest flag bearers.

AM I missing something at the link? The only picture I saw was a woman smiling in a white blouse and black jacket?

I, at least, would NOT like to see her in a bikini, either in a photo or on a beach. Blouse and black jacket OK. I'm a quarter of her size and I no longer wear shorts.

that people are complaining about a pic of her in a bikini? I didn't see it. Oh well.

I see lots of stuff on FB I don't care to see.. it's easy for me to just scroll right on thru. I have no idea why people would rather BAN something than to just ignore it.

in blouse and jacket? Now imagine her in a bikini.

Some things, once seen, cannot be un-seen.

I don't care. If I don't wanna see it I'll just scroll on by. What's so difficult about that?
