for the entire week. They'll have to cover it now because the power cuts have reached the French Open so there's one camera coverage.
Funny how they cover 'terror' 24/7 from anywhere real or imagined.

and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Definitely a pre-revolutionary situation bordering on revolutionary. The strike is not quite "general" yet (I don't think), but it is VERY widespread and headed towards that territory for sure.
But yeah, no mainstream media coverage in the States and not much anywhere else in the world.

(31,397 posts)3. Here's a good article summarizing the strike
The protests are against François Hollandes planned labour bill, which aims to make it easier for companies to hire and fire workers, and which was forced through parliament without a vote this month.
Fuel shortages sparked by days of nationwide refinery strikes and blockades are easing across the country after several fuel depots were liberated by police, but the transport minister, Alain Vidalies, told journalists that although the situation is getting better, the crisis wasnt over.
In Paris on Thursday riot police arrested 16 people and fired teargas at about 100 people on the edge of a protest march. Several masked people smashed shop windows and cars were damaged near the route of the march. There were skirmishes at Place de la Nation as riot officers cordoned off protesters, some of whom complained of heavy-handed policing.
Police estimated that between 18,000 and 19,000 people took to the streets in Paris, while unions put the figure at 100,000. Street marches took place in other towns and cities including Toulouse, Bordeaux and Nantes.

I have an ex-pat friend who lives in Lyon. He has been complaining about not being able to get gas for his car. So he bikes to work where he teaches first grade at an international school,
but there is a lot of rain in the forecast for the next week or so.
