Why doesn't Bill Kristol scratch his itch by running for President himself?

The obvious answer is that Kristol deep down knows he is a peckerhead but is there more than that to it?

For less than spectacular results to follow. Not to mention being late to the dance, since state filing deadlines are kicking in AND there is already a formidable Libertarian third party option for GOP Trump despisers.

Quite the contrary. He and his ilk are government meddling busy bodies, as well as foreign interventionists of the first order.
