Sen. Elizabeth Warren is preparing to launch her latest attack on Donald Trump over his comments about the judge overseeing the fraud case against Trump University, calling the presumptive GOP presidential nominee a "loud, nasty, thin-skinned fraud," according to advance excerpts obtained by ABC News of a speech she will deliver at the American Constitution Societys National Convention in Washington, D.C., Thursday night.
"Donald Trump is a loud, nasty, thin-skinned fraud who has never risked anything for anyone and serves nobody but himself," Warren is set to say at the event, where she will share the stage with Vice President Joe Biden.
"Judge [Gonzalo] Curiel has survived far worse than Donald Trump. He has survived actual assassination attempts. He'll have no problem surviving Trumps nasty temper tantrums," Warren will say.
The Massachusetts senator also plans to tie Trump directly to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan by making the case that Trump is only taking a page from their playbooks.
"Trump isn't a different kind of candidate. He's a Mitch McConnell kind of candidate. Exactly the kind of candidate you'd expect from a Republican Party whose 'script' for several years has been to execute a full-scale assault on the integrity of our courts," Warren will say, in accusing McConnell of blocking judicial nominations.
"Trump is also House Speaker Paul Ryan's kind of candidate," Warren will say. "Paul Ryan condemned Trumps campaign for its attacks on Judge Curiel's integrity. Great. Where's Paul Ryan's condemnation of the blockade, the intimidation, the smears, and the slime against the integrity of qualified judicial nominees and Judge Garland?"

(269,003 posts)he is hilarious
he's been great as a senator, too. I remember when he had a healthcare rep testifying to the senate, and he brought up healthcare bankruptcies in the US. Then, he asked the woman if she knew how many medical bankruptcies there were in France. She responded that she didn't know and would have to look into it. He said, "I can tell you that number. It's zero." Then, he asked her if she knew how many there were in Germany, and when she started with saying she didn't know, he responded by saying it was zero there, too. Finally, with the third country (not sure which one), she finally got a clue and said that based on his line of questioning, it was probably 0. Very smartly done. (and much better than how I wrote it here)

Why would anyone watch the speech? To get the vicarious thrill of someone yelling at someone we do not like? At least in wrestling promos the things actually said are kept a secret until uttered. We realize The Undertaker will say bad things about Jake the Snake and threaten to take his soul, but the way he says it and the unique way The Undertaker will dispatch his opponent.

So campaigns target different segments at any given point in time
It's red meat for some, moderation for others and on and on
into a thousand cuts of demographics
I'm sure some of it is based on focus group research and polls
Every word nuanced
So, ironically, it may depend on which segment is discussed
and I should know better than to paint with a broad brush
But the media leads us into simplifications, as if Nixon's "Southern Strategy"
is really really relevant and one of the three main things to target
Hats off to ya! Have a good election!

The non-committed voters are not a monolithic block, but rather a series of various demographics, some of which are open to different tactics-- some we may agree with, others we may not approve of. Unless of course, you can point us towards an objective analysis emphatically concluding that this type of "attack never works..."

The last time an aging party incumbent picked a VP,
and a woman at that, it was Tip O'Neill and Geraldine Ferraro
How did that turn out for them?
The names they float are never the choice. Both parties play
this game. It's always someone that makes the public
slap their knee and say "Of course! I should have remembered him or her."
That way the candidate looks brilliant, the choice is fresh, new.
So back to the drawing board

Also, Geraldine Ferraro was on the Dem ticket with Walter Mondale.

(20,136 posts)Somehow having all-male tickets every single election for 200 years is totally normal, but heaven forbid we have one all-female ticket.
I don't think it will be Warren though because the governor of Massachusetts is a Republican and we need every vote we can get in the Senate.

I really hope she doesn't get tapped for VP pick, because she can be far louder and more effective right where she is. She has a strong work ethic to fight the "too big to fail" banks and the obscene amounts of money in politics, and she can do more about that in the senate than as VP.
