(Well known abstinence advocate Bristol Palin, daughter of Alaskas former half term Governor Sarah Palin has finally tied the knot with her on-again off-again boyfriend and babys daddy Dakota Meyer.)
Life is full of ups and downs but in the end, youll end up where youre supposed to be, Palin and Meyer told ET.
Hard work and Gods grace are the foundation of our new life together ...
Meyer and Palin announced their engagement in March 2015, but called off their wedding just one month later.
Rumors that the two had reunited began three months ago when they both started sharing pics of each other and their 5-month-old daughter, Sailor Grace.
Palin is also mother to a 7-year-old son, Tripp, with ex Levi Johnston.
(No word on if or when Bristol will continue her work as a paid spokesperson for abstinence.)

Talk about non serving civilian America losing touch with it's warriors.
Mariana
(14,857 posts)There are plenty of other articles that talk about that - perhaps you have read some of them since you seem to know all about it.
This article is about his marriage. His MOH and the circumstances under which he earned it are completely irrelevant to this particular story.
braddy
(3,585 posts)even mentioned what he is famous for, or that he is famous at all.
Meyer is in the history books, and always will be, our nation honored him with our highest honor.
Mariana
(14,857 posts)People already know why he's famous. You certainly do. I do. I bet every single person on this board knows, and the overwhelming majority of the readers of that article do, too. There's no need to go over his history every time his name is mentioned.

(3,585 posts)Dakota Meyer.
Look how they describe Bristol. ""The 25-year-old daughter of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin""
This is just the way the modern media rolls for a shallow public.

(37,573 posts)but that meant nothing to me.
it's a little bit like the SNL skit where one guy named Matt Damon finds a cure for cancer and the big headline that follows was "Matt Damon (the movie star) to get married". Meyer, even though he has real accomplishments, is less famous than his wife. He also is still kind of a young kid who has some issues, at least according to wiki.

(37,748 posts)Much as Amal Alamuddin is rarely referred to as a Human Rights Lawyer, conscientious worker at the International Court of Justice, and lead counsel to the 2013 Drone Inquiry-- but simply as a Holywood actor's wife.
No doubt, the discrepancies become even more obvious when the roles are reversed, and we take exception to the male being overshadowed.

(3,585 posts)Not even during the wars?
Modern America really is shallow, Bristol is only a minor, low level celebrity, not an enduring national figure like a Medal of Honor awardee.
Mariana
(14,857 posts)You can frame your essay exactly the way you like. You can emphasize his war hero status. You can describe why he received the MOH. You can make it about his history instead of about the marriage. You can write it up however you want to.
Did it ever occur to you that maybe Meyer and Palin wanted it published this way?
braddy
(3,585 posts)leave out a MOH, or perhaps the writer and ET feels that this best suits their audience.
Mariana
(14,857 posts)Most likely they reviewed the piece and approved it for publication beforehand.
braddy
(3,585 posts)Bristol Palin gets veto power over stories that ET writes about her and wants her husband's MOH kept from it's readership? I don't think so.
I think I just don't understand the ET "celebrity" audience as well as ET does.
Mariana
(14,857 posts)Do you really think he needs you to be checking after him to make sure he's doing it right?
braddy
(3,585 posts)identifier, in fact the only identifier, of the most significant figure of the couple.
This indicates that their celebrity obsessed audience doesn't care or know about the real world stuff, and really only wanted to hear about Sarah Palin's daughter who appeared on DWS.
Mariana
(14,857 posts)in this piece. It could be that he considers his status as a husband and a father to be more important than his status as a war hero. I don't know and neither do you.
I'm sure that if it was important to him that the military background be put in there, it would have been.
braddy
(3,585 posts)the wedding?
Why are you so upset by me pointing out that they left out who he is?
Mariana
(14,857 posts)Meyer and Palin decided to be interviewed by ET for this piece. They were probably paid for it. I don't believe Meyer would be so stupid as to negotiate an interview for an article without allowing for him and Palin to approve the article before publication. But, I don't know him. Maybe you're right and he is that stupid.
braddy
(3,585 posts)Negotiated interview?
I don't get why you are fixated on denying that ET failed to mention the MOH.
lancer78
(1,495 posts)A LOT more people know who Bristol Palin is. Mr. Meyer is the only CMOH awardee that I can name now because you mentioned it. Go ahead and go around and ask people to name a CMOH awardee, I bet very few people can. Then ask those same people who Bristol Palin is, and most of them should be able to tell you.
That is why his CMOH got left out of the article. He is not what will attract eyeballs. Bristol Palin is the one who will attract eyeballs and advertisement dollars.
