You Want To ‘Protect’ Women In Bathrooms. What About From Actual Rapists?

. . .

But no, it wasn’t primarily the trans people (especially trans women) that we needed to be protected from. It was the the pedophiles and the voyeurs who would take advantage of the laws. It was the men who would dress up like a woman so they could prey on women in bathrooms. Those were the real threat. Those were the men that needed to be dealt with. Violent men who would do actual harm against women — those were the men that we needed to be on the lookout for, those were who the men were concerned about. Keep women safe from men who were violent.

So when Stanford rapist Brock Turner got a mere six-month sentence, I started waiting.

Waiting for all of these men to start posting their outrage at the system that so dramatically failed a young woman.

Waiting for these men to prove that their concern for their wives and daughters wasn’t really just a mask for the transphobia that they carried and didn’t want to be called on.

And that means if a boy gets really drunk, when he encounters an unconscious woman, instead of calling 911, getting her to a safe place or even leaving her alone, he'll jam a bottle into her vagina. But he's such a scamp and a super swimmer, we don't need to worry about him. Just a boy doing what boys do! It's those damn transwomen we need protecting from.

in case it wasn't obvious ...

If there's one issue I agree wholeheartedly with Senator Sanders on, it's the medieval barbarity that is capital punishment.

Rape could be a mandatory life sentence depending on the circumstances. I personally don't want rapists released back into society. It takes a sick mind to rape somebody in the first place, and there's no cure for that. Obviously I'm not talking about cases where a 15 year old is willingly sleeping with a 18 year old or anything like that.

. . .those who don't care really care will use the exact same concern as you express to justify the whole bathroom fascination.

Yeah, they don't care about these assaults. But, they'll use that to justify their scare tactics.

Problem is what to do with the sociopaths out there who believe it's their right to take what they want and assert their power over others.

Rape has been a constant in human societies (and animal societies!) throughout all time, and all attempts to prevent it have only REDUCED the frequency, but never ELIMINATED it. When civilizations break down it becomes more frequent, as there is less risk of punishment.

Alcohol's effect on the brain certainly doesn't help; men who may have rapist impulses that they otherwise control lose the inhibitions when drunk (the Stanford kid). I look at many of the strictures of Islam ("modesty" for women, no fraternization between sexes, no alcohol) as misguided attempts to reduce rape and molestation.

I hate to say it, but there's always going to be a small percentage of men that are fucked up POS rapists. It's a flaw in our simian brains. I'm too much of a cynic to think it will ever go away entirely.

"Consent" should be taught, and I suppose you could "teach" men to recognize rape, and act when they see it occurring, as, again, in the Stanford case. But even that rape still happened.

They're the ones who are the most likely to commit the most perverted sex crimes imaginable, while using trans people as a scapegoat. And it's all just an excuse to brandish their precious guns.

They don't care about women getting raped, it's all about their hatred and intolerance for trans individuals (and gay people indirectly).
