This was homophobia as well as terrorism. It is not enough to simply condemn violence: we have to understand what it is and why it happened,
To ignore the homophobia and say it was more about terrorism is to negate the hate directed toward gays. The GOP wants to make the shooting a ISIS issue. Not a gay hate crime. But in reality it is more of a gay hate crime than Islamic terrorism.

(1,098 posts)If he wanted to show his support for ISIS specifically or radical Islam in general, attacking a gay club isn't exactly the worst way to go about it. Islamic law considers homosexuality a sin, and may even be punished by death in places with the strictest interpretations, like Iran and Saudi Arabia. ISIS of course has a nasty habit of throwing homosexuals off buildings, among other forms of execution.

(115,679 posts)This was a hate crime. Here's a quick example. Why did Facebook have a French first overlay after the mass murders there, and no fish overheat about this? Unless they just put one up.

If you can blame it on ISIS then the other gun owners don't seem quite so ominous.
ISIS had nothing to do with this.
