Americans are desensitized.

(12,381 posts)If they had of released the photos of the sandy hook massacre, the Gun debate in the country
would be over.
People seem to think its like hollywood, just a bullet hole to the head with a trickle of
blood.
In reality a shotgun to the face, put it this way, theres a reason its a close casket.
Maybe do what those anti choice protesters do and carry placards around of gun shot victims.

2. If the families don't want to release before-and-after pics of their murdered loved ones, that's 100% fine with me.
"Desensitized" has much less to do with it than does respecting the families' wishes.

(6,716 posts)but given that one of the survivor interviews indicated that the murderer was blowing the victim's heads off, I'm not sure the families would want that out there.

(53,410 posts)I honestly don't know. My son died a couple of years ago, and I still can't talk about his death. I can talk about his life and memories I have, but the day he died is just too painful.
But then he wasn't massacred. Maybe I would feel differently if he was. Maybe I could rely on my rage to show the world. It's possible.

(32,076 posts)Those of us who have lost loved ones to gun violence don't find this "unimaginable".

I have never viewed the images. Besides the obvious, it seems inappropriate to view such a thing. Of anyone.

(13,685 posts)As it is, we'll all just forget about it and end up sweeping it under the rug.
We are a people who live for images. An image of the massacred would be an ever present reminder that it can happen to anyone.
I had the most gruesome thought that the bodies of the perpetrators be strung up in public. Like I said, gruesome idea.
I do remember that images on the news, from Vietnam, helped remind everyone of what we were doing there.

(2,256 posts)He died in my arms October 21, 2001. I have before and after photos. Anyone wanting to see his after death photos will find themselves in need of a surgeon to remove my foot from their ass. I have no time for people who want to get their kicks from seeing photos of dead children.
