A happy day (after two very sad days) at the fire lookout today. This might just be the first time in history an Emmy statue has been photographed at a fire lookout, and standing on an Osborne Fire-Finder. I share this 2015 Emmy with the Arizona Public Media staffers who worked on the Lemmon Rock Lookout PBS documentary in 2014. Thanks to all of them for making this project a winner.
The AZPM producer actually hiked this in to the lookout this morning for this photo op (the Emmy resides at AZPM on the U of AZ campus). We did an NPR interview while he was there. I'm getting good at these!
Special thanks, also, to WCQS - Western North Carolina Public Radio in Asheville - for the use of their ISDN studio to finish the voice-over for this documentary.

(24,368 posts)There's like two houses along that stretch! East of Benson, right?
Highest point on I 10 is right where the rest areas are.

(24,368 posts)Get cleaned up and do a driver switch (I go in the bunk) and head east. Switch again in Las Cruces, then Seguin, TX (east of San Antonio) and Biloxi. Back to the yard Friday morning
Have a safe trip, driver!

A HERETIC I AM
(24,368 posts)I have done more of it in the 2 2/2 years with this firm than all of my 26 years otr
I'll be headed up the mountain after one off day (in seven - not bad) at about 4 AM. With some sunrise photo stops. I used to have CB in the Oregon lookout, but did not bring it to AZ. I am Ham only up here now. Two meter simplex, if you are licensed (146.52).

(9,899 posts)How far off the highway are you? My CB is just a Cobra 29 LX with 3 diodes added, but it's hooked to my rigs internal antenna system (2015 Freightliner), so I doubt if my broadcast range is very far.

(55,008 posts)you are actually driving through it (though some of it on the west/north is pretty damn narrow. when the interstate went in they sure did not attempt to run on any ranch boundaries!)

Way to go! Please post the link. Cheers!
