Why did the Rebel Alliance blow up the Death Star? The Death Star didn't destroy Alderaan.

It was the Empire. The Empire destroyed Alderaan. The Death Star was just a tool. A tool. Like a hammer. Or a T-square.

The Empire needed the Death Star for home defense. They wanted to be able to protect themselves in case the Rebel Alliance broke into the Empire's house some night.

A tool. That's all the Death Star was.

The Rebel Alliance went and ruined it for all law-abiding Death Star-owners.

The carriers didn't attack Midway. The carriers didn't kill American servicemen. They were just a tool.

Huh? How come?

6. vader clearly had some mental health issues and was ripe for "radicalization".

if the rebels had tackled the mental health issue back in episode iv, maybe there wouldn't have been a virtual repeat in episode vii....

how many times do we have to go through the same cycle of tragedy while doing nothing to stop the next one?

15. They didn't dispose of other empires' death stars, now did they?

They just took an inappropriately used death star out of the hand of the felon so that he couldn't use it again.

Very few gun aficionados would say that somebody who is using a gun to kill people has a right to keep that gun as he's locating his next target.

Similarly, if somebody's bashing in people's heads with a hammer, the appropriate response is, for starters, to take away the hammer. (But since hammers are used in some homicides, I guess we really just need to ban hammers. Or perhaps license them and make sure that people complete a background check and go through proper hammer-use training.)

In fact, I guess the proper answer if you step back a few mm would be that the Rebels really shouldn't have had their weapons. After all, the government's armed forces were in possession of the Death Star, and if the Rebels laid down their arms it would be all peace and unicorns. True, having gun ownership did lead to a free state, but that's just an accident. The empire, rid of rogue weapons and with the monopoly on arms possession secured by the govenment, would inevitably be free. Or at least peaceful.

Because the empire wanted to confiscate and destroy their X-wings, and heirloom Y-wings, and destroy their home base on a beautifully green planet.
