NJ's 9th Congressional District: This is what democracy looks like.

Pascrell's home turf came up big in 9th Congressional District race

The onetime Paterson mayor beat Steve Rothman 90-0 in one district in Clifton, he won another in Haledon by 83-1, and a third in his home city by 215-4.

And those results weren’t unique. In all, Pascrell’s sweeping victory in his home county and the overwhelming success of his campaign’s get-out-the-vote effort there were enough to swamp Rothman and provide a lesson in the value of effective, on-the-ground, retail politics.

Indeed, Pascrell’s showing had experts talking about history.

-snip-

“When you look at the makeup of the 9th District, it should have been Steve Rothman, 60 to 40 percent,” Dworkin said. “But I think the strong work by the Pascrell campaign turned that on its head so that it was Pascrell by 60 to 40. A 40 percent swing — that is really something.”
