Gretna 'sovereign citizen' guilty of mail fraud (LA)

A .. man who .. went about filing liens and demanding millions of dollars in payment from co-workers and public officials for use of his name .. was found guilty of 30 counts of mail fraud in federal court Tuesday .. according to U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite's office.

Melvin Lewis II .. faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, three years of supervised released and a $250,000 fine.

The FBI arrested Lewis in April 2014 following an extortion investigation into threatening communications that he sent to a number of people, including a Westwego police sergeant, co-workers, Westwego public servants and Judge Stephen Grefer of the 24th Judicial District court, court records said.

Lewis purported to be a sovereign citizen who doesn't recognize local, state or federal laws ... Lewis believed meant that no one could speak or write his name without his permission ...

2. This guy likely needs mental health help more than prison

These folks seem to have a clear departure from reality. Some of the sovereign citizen arrest videos are just bizarre. A lot of the Bundy followers are these sovereign citizen people.

he doesn't believe HIV/Hepatitis precautions apply to him. Health Dept. won't do anything about it because he lies to them. IRS caught up with him though and he found out he really did have to pay taxes.
My advice is - don't do business with sovereign citizens.

6. Good- those types are the scum of the earth

They can make life a living hell filing false paperwork with the cours exploiting loopholes and causing people trouble it can take months and lots of money to fix.

And most are not hesitant to move to violence when they version or reality is challenged.
