So, people will vote however the sports star tells them?

That's great unless the other side gets its own sports star. Who is the NBA equivalent of Scott Baio?

Yay Cleveland! Buh-bye DU. I'm tired of this.

and just wish people had as much dedication to their civic duty as they did their sports teams.

That said it was NOT my intention to drive you away, flame you, or in any way discourage you. I apologize for creating that impression by my unclear expression.

Let people have their civic pride. Cleveland/Akron/NE Ohio deserves to feel joy like this.

Your "I have no idea who these 'Cavs' are" act is l@m3.

How do you know they don't. Are you suggesting that people can't be civic minded and enjoy team sports at the same time?

As someone mentioned earlier, if you don't care, then don't comment.

That was totally unnecessary.

by sports fans who can recite arcane stats about sport's trivia, but are hard pressed to name their congressman, or a Supreme Court Justice, or articulate a coherent thought about things far more consequential to their lives. I live in NC where basketball is practically a religion.

Don't really care. Perhaps someone can explain to me why a person would be paid an seven/eight figure salary for stuffing a ball through a hoop. Personally I would reserve that kind of compensation for people who do something genuinely worthwhile, like, I dunno, cure cancer?

I only wish it could be broadcast to the million or so people who have the temerity to gather as a community to celebrate a notable local occurrence.

They should all hang their heads in shame, or whatever else you'd have them do, rather than enjoy themselves.

By the way, 1987 called. It wants Bono back.

Crowd of 1.3 million celebrates Cavs title at downtown parade

Mike Mazzeo, ESPN Staff Writer
June 22, 2016

CLEVELAND -- LeBron James and the rest of the NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers were honored with a downtown parade Wednesday as the city celebrated its first major professional sports title since 1964.

A crowd of approximately 1.3 million, some who had slept on sidewalks overnight to get a good view, packed downtown Cleveland like never before, spilling off sidewalks into streets along the 1.3-mile parade route that took more than four hours to crawl through, concluding with a rally at Mall B.

The Cavaliers ended the city's 52-year title drought on Sunday night by upsetting the defending champion Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena 93-89 in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

"For some crazy reason, I feel like I'm gonna wake up and it's going to be Game 4 again," with the Cavs down 2-1 to the Warriors, James told the crowd before thanking each of his teammates one by one.

"I'm nothing without you all. I love all of y'all," James said to the fans. "Get ready for next year."

The downtown parade, with James and Kyrie Irving riding in style in Rolls-Royces, began outside Quicken Loans Arena before heading up East Ninth Street and to Mall B.

Yay for Cleveland - Seattle only managed 500K for the Seahawks Superbowl Parade. 1.3M is amazing (and I'm a tad skeptical of that estimate)!
