The sun came up this morning. The birds are chirping. The economic markets are down, but they are not crashing.
The EU isn't what is holding the world together. Human civilization will still go on and survive whether the EU does or not. The EU is a political-economic organization. There are many of these already in the dustbin of history. They come and go. It's just the evolution of our civilization. Some of the panic and doomsday talk about this is ridiculous.
The reality is that a majority of British citizens do not feel as if the EU was representing their interests nor sharing their concerns. There is a serious trust problem. And when democracies start to feel that way, votes like this tend to happen. Who do you blame? Not the people! It's not the people's fault. This is the fault of the politicians. It's the fault of the European leaders. That's who you point your finger at. And that's why Cameron is resigning. It's why several other European leaders are now on the hot seat. This puts them all on notice. These people are elected by their people to represent them and their interests. That hasn't been happening.
Brexit is likely only the first domino to fall.

(17,215 posts)... those who voted for Brexit do not necessarily share the agenda of the thugs championing it, and their discontent should not be disregarded just because opportunists use it to advance their own agendas.

(100,097 posts)I'm sure a lot of this is xenophobia stemming from Europe's fear of Syrian refugees. Who probably wouldn't be refugees if they lived in a country with a stable democracy. Which that I know is a byproduct of our never-ending war with the Middle East. If we ever were to end it and see true peace, things might have turned out differently.
