Pakistan 'trashed' and insulted, Kayani won't meet US official

Pakistan Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani's office turned down a request for a meeting by visiting US deputy assistant secretary of defense Peter Lavoy, reflecting the strains that have hit ties between the two countries since last year.

A meeting was requested by the American official but the general headquarters declined it, unnamed Pakistani officials were quoted as saying by The News daily on Monday.

...

One unnamed Pakistani official indicated the request was turned down because of allegations by US officials that Pakistan was not doing enough to rein in militants operating along the border with Afghanistan.

"There are several reasons for turning down (a meeting with) Lavoy. It is to tell the Americans that you cannot be bad-mouthing us day in and day out and then expect a meeting with Pakistan's most powerful personality," the official said.

"You cannot trash our sovereignty, threaten us, announce intensified drone attacks, kill our soldiers, refuse to apologise when you do the same in Kabul, hold back our money (from the Coalition Support Fund), threaten to cut off all aid and then pretend that it is business as usual," the official added.

I couldn't agree more with the unnamed official.

How would most US citizens react if a foreign power constantly and recklessly violated US sovereignty, threatened the US, slaughtered its people by drone strikes, never apologized, and continued doing so as if nothing wrong was committed?

Killed Bhutto.

Pak's loudmouths are just bargaining for bigger bribes from the US purse.

I'm insulted that the Pakistan military is threatening to kill Asma Jahangir.

I'm insulted they harbored bin Laden.

I'm kind of insulted with the attacks on minorities in their country. The militants killed
"Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer and Federal Minorities’ Minister Shahbaz Bhatti over their public support for amending the country’s often abused blasphemy laws."

I'm insulted the government ( military) does not protect women from forced marriage, violence and rape. See the same link.

Yes, Pakistan is the very model of a wonderful ally ( sarcasm). I'm sorry that some civilians are killed, but it's better than boots on the ground, and the Pakistanis could remedy a lot of what is going on if they would even make some small effort to clean up their act.
