Militiaman Has to Stay in Nevada Jail -- #BundyTeaParty

Wednesday, June 29, 2016
Last Update: 5:36 PM PT

LAS VEGAS (CN) — An Idaho man was correct when he said his participation in the April 2014 standoff at the Bundy Ranch in Nevada was "life-changing." A federal judge Tuesday said he has to stay in jail.

O. Scott Drexler, of Challis, Idaho, asked to be released from federal detention, but U.S. District Judge Gloria M. Navarro ... said the nature of the standoff, photo documentation of Drexler with guns and dressed in military garb, his subsequent support of efforts to interfere with BLM activities in Oregon, and his participation in "Operation Big Sky," during which self-proclaimed "militia" members guarded the White Hope Mine against the federal government after its operating plan expired in 2014, indicate he does not recognize federal authority ...

Drexler's attorney, Craig Drummond of Las Vegas, said Drexler merely looked through a rifle scope and at no time made any threats against BLM staff or other law enforcement while at the Bundy Ranch near Bunkerville ...

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Dickinson said ... "He's lying in a prone sniper position on a bridge on I-15" ...

If someone sighted on Mr. Drexler through a scope that was coincidentally mounted on a high-powered rifle, I wonder whether he would think he was being threatened, or just happened to catch someone's attention?

Nowadays it's getting so a person can't even lie down peacefully on a bridge and look through the scope of a rifle pointed at federal agents without that some nervous nelly gets all in a tizzy from groundless speculation about the possibility of imaginary gunfire

Protester Scott Drexler carries a rifle on a bridge next to the Bureau of Land Management’s base camp where seized cattle, that belonged to rancher Cliven Bundy, are being held at near Bunkerville, Nevada April 12, 2014. U.S. officials ended a stand-off with hundreds of armed protesters in the Nevada desert on Saturday, calling off the government’s roundup of cattle it said were illegally grazing on federal land and giving about 300 animals back to rancher Bundy who owned them. (REUTERS/Jim Urquhart)

At the following link there's another Reuters photo of Drexler kneeling at his sniper position as he drinks bottled water: http://news.trust.org/item/20140412215635-vpcl7?view=print

A different guy from the one in the iconic bridge sniper photo, as struggle posted in a reply above.

The prosecutor mentions Drexler also being in a prone sniper position on the bridge and the story I linked above shows him kneeling with his blanket laid out there, but I haven't seen a prone photo of him. I'm guessing it may be among Urquhart's photos for Reuters--and Drexler may even have posted it himself on his FB page.

that if you join the Army they give you guns and might even let you shoot foreigners (in their own country).

They sure do like playing soldier, like I did when I was 10.

but I believe in some states that merely sighting an animal with a gun mounted scope shows intent to hunt. A good hunter will carry binoculars or similar.

Ku Kluxers - traitors in my mind. I mean, look at what these assholes did. They came into a town waving around their guns and strutting up to people demanding to see their 'papers.' Fuck these scum. Prison or deportation. They want their fucking 'freedom' to take over federal land, do they? What about my freedom to enjoy that land? What about my freedom to walk around my own town without being detained by some ignorant blockhead with a BIG gun (ya think he's compensating for something???) because he thinks I don't look like I belong???

Sorry, but put this asshole in jail and throw away the key. He's a domestic terrorist.

If he was black and pointing a rifle towards law enforcement folks, doubt he'd be considered a fine American fightin' the gubmint for freedom. Classic case of two tiers of law for the plebes. Now imagine a whole group of armed black or Islamic or brown or gay folks ranting and raving about the government and pointing weapons at officials? Doubt the outcome would have been a peaceful stand-down.
