I went to a Kenny Chesney concert several years ago in Mpls. Indoors. Large crowd--that was loud== but they/we enjoyed the music. Nothing like this. Yes, beer was served.

PITTSBURGH - Officials say more than two dozen people were taken to hospitals and several others were arrested in and around the Kenny Chesney concert in Pittsburgh.
Public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said 57 emergency medical transports were requested by 9 p.m. Saturday and 25 people were taken to hospitals, mainly for intoxication or intoxication-related injuries.
Police reported a handful of arrests on charges including trespassing, ticket robbery, simple assault and public intoxication. Toler said one officer injured his thumb while breaking up a fight.
CBS Pittsburgh reports 36 citations were issued for underage drinking in the Heinz Field parking lots.

"My sixth Kenny Chesney concert it's been the best experience ever. It's the main concert we always choose to go to," Laura Hytla of Pittsburgh told the local CBS station. "I feel like it's just as bad as ever. I hate that but at the same time you're always walking on garbage, it shouldn't be like that but it is."....................

(8,577 posts)I've never seen a fight at a Rush concert, and I've been to a lot of them; I've never seen or heard about fighting at a Dave Matthews concert, either!

(8,577 posts)It was 77 IIRC, Led Zeppelin at Tampa Stadium. I did not go to it, and afterward was glad I didn't. It was in the spring/very early summer and in Tampa that was prime season for late afternoon thunderstorns, nasty storms with bad lightning. They'd usually not last very long, but were quite ugly while occurring. When the inevitable thunderstorm came up, Zeppelin left the stage. I think people expected them to come back out after the storm, but they did not, and when it was announced the crowd got very ugly and rioted, tore down fencing and generally very bad behavior, causing injuries, arrests and such. It was so destructive that rock concerts were then banned at the stadium (this was the old stadium, not the one there today, although is on the same piece of land).
Of course, this was a Zeppelin crowd in the 70's so massive quantities of drugs had been consumed, with lots of acid, uppers and downers being more prevalent than pot. That was why I didn't want to attend; I was a pot head, and the acid freaks and pill heads were not a fun group to be around, and I had had a premonition that it would be an ugly scene. I and a group of my friends who didn't go went and saw Star Wars again, IIRC!
One reason it sticks out in my mind so strongly is that I was going to go see ELP there a few weeks after that. ELP was touring that summer with a 75 person choir and a 100 piece orchestra (those numbers may not be exact - it has been nearly 40 years!). I was really stoked for that show, being a huge prog rock hippy girl, and when they canceled all shows for the stadium, there was no alternate venue arranged. ELP didn't come to Tampa and IIRC, they were bankrupted by that tour.

(57,093 posts)The Beatles, Beach Boys, Zappa, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Mountain, Poco, Beau Brummels, Hendrix, Cactus, Jefferson Airplane, Black Oak Arkansas, J Geils, Animals, Velvet Underground, Outsiders, McHendry Springs, James Gang, Humble Pie, T Rex, Caravan, Kinks ..... though at the Kinks concert In Providence the bass player from Bad Company came off the stage and hit some guy in the front row for yelling for the Kinks all through the BC set with his guitar.
Stayed away from the Who, Stones and Zep because they were going to be 20,000+ crowds and I figured it'd be bad. The Who concert was in Cincinnati and people got trampled to death when they opened the doors, and the people without tickets at the Zep concert in Cleveland busted out the windows at the Colosseum. The Stones went Ok at the Rubber Bowl.
And I always drank a slug from the paper cup of orange juice traveling down the rows. Doobs would be passed around. Good times.
At the Beatles in '66, there were no drugs: just 40,000 screaming girls, so more accurately I didn't hear the Beatles, I only saw them. The tickets were $6.50.

(8,577 posts)When I saw your reply, I fully expected the link to be to either the kids crushed at a concert by The Who, or the Stones show Hells Angels stabbings. I had remembered those both earlier today - I might be showing my age, lol!

all the red cups in top photo looks like someone had a kegger.....we have summerfest here in milwaukee and the cops
always make a big deal out of saying they will be on the lookout for underage drinking....if the expectation is set that the cops will be hauling away teen drunks you will have fewer teen drunks.....

I only saw one guy in the entire stadium get dragged out on his ass for being crazy drunk. In the whole stadium and there were 25,000 people present. Man country music fans need to take a cue from metal fans. We can drink some amazing beer and not get into fights.

(100,076 posts)No way to get there other than driving. Taxis and Uber I can imagine would be ridiculous. Though the country music fans totally trashed that parking lot, no excuse for that.

So, you know how the stuff I listen to (death metal, thrash, grindcore, avant garde, etc) sounds like horrible noise to country music fans? Well, that's exactly how modern NashVegas country sounds to me.
The difference is . . . y'all don't have to listen to death, thrash and grindcore WHEREVER YOU GO. Restaurants, bars, stores, amusement parks . . . IT'S EVERYWHERE. GAAAAH.
