Please consider voting for Democrats, who will enact environmental safety measures, which will then produce a beautiful and safe Florida, thereby attracting, rather than repelling, tourists. Just saying.

(4,246 posts)What good are lower business taxes if there's no business to be had?

(23,102 posts)They have been trained like pavlov's dog to only respond in certain ways to specific stimuli. Jobs isn't one of the triggers,
only self-interest, taxes and screwing the poor and controlling women's reproduction (other women's, Repugs have no issues with their own wives/girlfriends having abortions). If it also helps them and doesnt advance one of the other favorites, it doesn't count. So jobs aren't important because that would help the poor and can;t have that.

(16,296 posts)Florida will burn, cover itself in algae, and disappear into the ocean and the survivors burnt to a crisp, covered in green slime algae on their homemade rafts will still vote Republican. A stupid lot - and I'm a Floridian.

(5,954 posts)by re-establishing diplomatic relations with Cuba. A handful of cranky, anti-Castro Cuban expats living in south Florida have been tilting the political scale in Florida for years. And Cuba has been a third rail that no federal politician has had the guts to touch. At least until Obama.
If both diplomatic and trade relations have been established with Cuba over the next few months (before the election), so that it appears that the trend is irreversible, it will take a lot of the steam out of the Republican momentum in south Florida.
Don't you think?

This problem was resolved and then pRick Scott decided to not take the property from the Sugar Barons. Why?? Because they gave him a ton of money for his election.
This state has been f--ked so many times by the Repukes. Those of us in the South Florida area get screwed by policies in the Panhandle. Heck last week was the first time Rubio even showed his face. Murphy has been here fighting for the St Lucie River. Nelson has been here. What do the 2 of them have in common?? They are Democrats.
I wish half the people in Stuart who constantly vote for Repukes start to learn their lesson. Those of us in St Lucie County already did. We vote for the right ones, and that darn Martin County along with Indian River keep fu--ing it up for the Treasure Coast.
I'm so angry because guess what - I can't even go outside anymore. All I smell is rotting fish. It's the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. And I've lived in Florida for over 30 years.

(14,576 posts)Oh, they say, we have too much regulation. It kills profits. It kills jobs.
And, sure, I can see where sometimes regulations are stupid. Absolutely. But when you get rid of the ones that allow this death algae to grow, then I'd say you've thrown the baby out with the bathwater.

Sure, let's blame it on the republicans and move on and not look too deeply into the voting records of Florida's democrats.

(36,926 posts)I am no DWS fan, but no way do I believe she is responsible for the despicable environmental conditions in Florida. Why don't you focus on your Repub elected officials to get to the bottom of this?

(5,954 posts)How about the fact that half of Miami Beach is flooded in October? But, NOOOOO....if some shit-for-brains can throw a snowball around in the Senate in December, climate change MUST be a liberal hoax.

(22,670 posts)NO!
How about go ask other red states for aid. I doubt you'll get a dime because their GOP governors choose to ignore scientific fact. But here's your chance to get them on board. If you can do that you can get federal aid. Until then though.
Sorry! We've been telling you that global climate change is real for fucking ever and you've chosen the RWNJ way over logic and science. So fuck you!

(3,626 posts)He asks for federal aid at any opportunity. He even asked for federal disaster relief within hours of Orlando. (I think it was denied.) There's a bit of flooding in the panhandle, an inconvenient wind storm near Jacksonville and he's right on the gravy train. I don't know how this compares to other states (especially ones with R governors) or what the request:approval ratio is. But we pay through the nose for storm insurance, including the state-run Citizen's policies. I guess he thinks that if you ask often enough, eventually you'll get paid. He never heard of the 'cry wolf' syndrome.
The probable science-based cause of this awful algae is agricultural runoff polluting our waterways. A whole bunch of fertilizer to grow, let's say tomatoes, miles away eventually finds its way into the aquifer, streams, rivers, etc., and fertilizes whatever is growing there. Regulations are not written and those that actually exist are not enforced, and we end up poisoning our once-beautiful world.
