Other explosions took place Monday in the port of Jeddah, and Qatif, an eastern city populated by the predominantly-Sunni country’s embattled Shia minority.

The Jeddah blast occurred outside the US consulate - the first {my edit to add the word "first"?} attack on a foreign target in years - and resulted in wounds to two security officers, as well as the death of the bomber.

In Qatif, the explosion was next to a mosque, where people had gathered to evening prayers. So far, only body parts, presumably belonging to the bomber, have been identified.

and try to blame everybody but the Sunni asshole who blew himself up outside a Shi'a mosque. They've been fighting this one for hundreds and hundreds of years and it doesn't seem to be going away soon. It's the basis for Saudi antipathy toward Iran and for much of the violence in Iraq and Syria that occurred even before DAESH got going.

And if Christians are feeling smugly superior, they need to revisit their own history, especially around the Reformation and the holocaust against women during the witch hunts.

bombings and moderate Christians are not stoned to death by the extreme Christians. Put it simply, moderates Christians are not afraid to speak out.

The Troubles were much like this.

It wasn't an abstract thing in my family.

when Bobby Jones was head of the Klan and those old boys were making a hell of a lot of trouble, I got Jew bashed more often than I got Catholic bashed but I did get both of them. So yeah, some of us do know about sectarian violence within the same religion.

The Medina mosque is one of the most important in Sunni Islam: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holiest_sites_in_Sunni_Islam

The blast in Jeddah may have been aimed at the US consulate; if not, Jeddah, in the west of Saudi Arabia, is Sunni, not Shi'a.

particular terrorists. The whole arrangement the fanatics have with the House of Said is that the Saudi government will give the religious fanatics power and fund their international outreach, and the religious fanatics will export their violence instead of messing with Saudi Arabia.
