The tiny safety pin is making a huge impact in Great Britainand it has nothing to do with punk rock.
Following last weeks stunning Brexit vote, the United Kingdom saw a staggering 57 percent increase in reported incidents of xenophobic abuse, according to the National Police Chiefs Council. Some victims even took to social media to share photos of the alleged verbal and physical abuse they have suffered since the vote.
David Cameron, Great Britain's outgoing Prime Minister, said in a statement:
In the past few days we have seen despicable graffiti daubed on a Polish community centre, weve seen verbal abuse hurled against individuals because they are members of ethnic minorities. Lets remember these people have come here and made a wonderful contribution to our country. We will not stand for hate crime or these kinds of attacks, they must be stamped out.
Oddly enough, it is an American who came up with the small but mighty gesture for those looking to support immigrants in the U.K. As Mashable reports, a Twitter user named Allison proposed the simple idea of wearing a safety pin to show solidarity for immigrants.
Very good idea to let people know you're a safe person to be around.

(2,178 posts)4. Critical thinkers are a tiny minority of any population.
Ever since Viet Nam, when Bill Casey and his ilk decided that they were going to control the M$M to prevent the kind of anti-War protests that occurred during that period. The whole dumbing-down of the US population has resulted in a crisis of epic proportions. It worked too well. Others, with different agendas, morphed the process to their own ends. A good example would be the religious Right, who used the media very effectively in gaining control of the GOP. The crazies weren't so crazy after all.

(49,533 posts)7. Reminds me of this Adlai Stevenson exchange:
A supporter once called out, "Governor Stevenson, all thinking people are for you!" And Adlai Stevenson answered, "That's not enough. I need a majority."
