Roofing company running “Get a Roof, Get a Gun” promotion
CASTLE ROCK, Colo. -

A roofing company in Castle Rock is offering a unique incentive to go through them to get your roof fixed.

Owner James Webb is giving out AR 15s to customers who choose services from WeatherProof Roofing. "We are the only roofing company in the country that is offering this. We figured we’d take a stand on what we believe," said Webb.

The promotion runs until October 1. While he knows it is controversial, he is hardly the first to do it.

get a roof--get a gun (Original Post) niyad Aug 2016 OP
interestingly enough, their phone number is not working. niyad Aug 2016 #1
Curious- would any background check be required by law of recipients ? 63splitwindow Aug 2016 #2
I don't know. several of the commenters had a similar question. niyad Aug 2016 #3
Of course it would. Likely, it's just a coupon at a local gun store. X_Digger Aug 2016 #4
You say "of course it would." Between individuals they are not required are they? 63splitwindow Aug 2016 #5
If the roofer bought it to give away, that is a straw purchase. (illegal, has been for a long time.) X_Digger Aug 2016 #6
Why the attitude? 63splitwindow Aug 2016 #11
If you purchase to give away, and not one of few defined exceptions (like in-family).. it's a crime. X_Digger Aug 2016 #14
That would be a straw purchase and a federal felony so of course they use a voucher Statistical Aug 2016 #9

The gun store will do the 4473 paperwork and bg check while trying to upsell ammo, accessories, optics, etc, to the folks.

The roofer buys the weapon from the gun store and he must therefore pass a background check at that time. He "gives" it to a customer. Are you certain of your answer?

When the roofer would have filled out the 4473, it asks if you are buying this for yourself.

Which is more likely, a roofer spending thousands of dollars on guns that he might or might not give away (who knows how many folks would choose him), or making a deal with a local gun dealer to take a coupon?

Illegal straw man transactions are generally those where the very purpose of the transaction is to evade the background check requirement. Who said he would need to carry an inventory as opposed to buying as needed? Oh, that's right, you did. See, that is not how discussions work. Each side gets to participate with their ideas--- not just you and yours.

It is clear you are not to be reasoned with. So off to iggy land you go.

No if's and's or buts.

It doesn't matter if the intent is to bypass the background check. If you are not the intended recipient (as outlined right there on the Form 4473), then it's a straw purchase.

It's clear that you don't want to actually discuss, you've got your mind made up already. Thanks for saving me the time.

Psst, in case you actually see this.. one post down.. I was right.

to someone who shouldn't have it. Like they aren't smart enough to ask a lawyer about the possible consequences of "giving" a gun away.

If I didn't know better I'd think you were posting about Texans rather than Coloradans.

Hopefully it would be a CZ dealer where you could pick up a CZ p-07, if not I'd take the 500 and head to another shop.

Every additional gun in private possession makes the end goal of super strict control/licensing/registration, espoused by so many gun haters, that much more impossible.

The children they depict were killed by a mentally unstable individual that murdered his own mother.

Keep on laughing then, it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I'd be more than happy to tell those families that it was an unstable individual that killed his own mother, who was responsible for the deaths of their loved ones.

Somehow, I suspect most of them already know it, even if you don't.
