Logan's Roadhouse files for bankruptcy

Nashville-based restaurant chain Logan's Roadhouse filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday with plans to restructure its operations and close 18 locations.

Logan's said in a statement that its CEO, Sam Borgese, will leave the company, but it was not immediately clear when a replacement would be identified.

The steak and Southern-inspired casual dining chain said that it had secured support for its restructuring plan from its first-lien lenders and bondholders and landed up to $25 million in bankruptcy financing.

The company's "customers continue to face pressure on discretionary income, directly correlating to depressed restaurant sales and reduced customer traffic," Logan's chief restructuring officer Keith Maib said in a court filing.

Went to Red Robin yesterday for research for work, and they're going the same way. Their menu is an entire book. They're across a pedestrian walkway from Cheesecake Factory that makes the same mistake.

We only ate there one time and the food was way too salty. Never went back. Rather go to my favorite "meat and three". Better food and cheaper.

Actually, wine in a box is COMPLETELY underrated.

There is much virtue to be found in the exclusion of air during the course of consumption.

the countless health problems related to being overweight, not the least of which include diabetes, crippling knee and joint problems, heart disease, etc.

A portion of meat for example, should never be more than 100 grams, or smaller than your fist.

I like small portions, or 'foo-foo' food. I get to taste and enjoy a variety of flavors rather than a slab o' meat and pile of fake potatoes.

Humans used to need larger portions when they were active and working from sun up to sun down. Now, everyone just sits around all day.

No more than 2000 calories per day for an active person, and about 1200 calories per day once you hit 40. The body metabolizes food at a much slower rate with age. We have to adjust our intake accordingly, or else we gain weight. I used to be able to eat 3 huge meals a day in my 20's, and I LOVE food. Now, I have to limit myself to one primary meal a day and small treats and seasonal fruit for snacks. That's life!

It's easier and cheaper to control portions when I cook and eat at home.

much, plain and simple. Too much fake crap, not enough fruit and veg, too much garbage soda crap instead of water.

I know energetic people who are heavy, and it's because they eat too much food and too much of the wrong food. I even know a guy who's very active, swims, walks a lot, eats mostly vegetarian, and he's still overweight... because he's eating too MUCH food, even if it's very healthy. He isn't convinced of this yet, I imagine it will sink in eventually, that 3 breakfasts, a huge lunch and a huge dinner, even if its sauteed veggies, a small amount of pasta, some smoked salmon with cream cheese, all healthy in parts, but not so healthy when consumed in too much volume.

I guess the people who want to figure it out, will, eventually. More full length mirrors in the house make a big difference.

For example, I know this bag of peanut m&ms will make my ass fat. So I'll try to stretch it out over a week. Wish me luck.

but interesting that people who think that any place but Applebee's and Olive Garden is an expensive haute restaurant.

The show Diners, Drive ins & Dives has shown hundreds of family restaurants with food from real people that are often cheaper than those chains.

All other BBQ is judged against Webb's BBQ (where I worked as a young'un in high school). Out here in Florida there's some that come close and some that fail utterly and completely. But those that fail on brisket can still do a good baby-back rib or pulled pork. I just don't love those like I love BBQ Brisket and hot beans and two slices of white bread.

I was surprised when I went for dinner at my girlfriend's parents house here in FL and she had a ketchup bottle of her own BBQ sauce on the table. It may have been a deciding factor in me asking GF to marry me lol. It was certainly a mark in the plus column.

I never did find out the whole recipe. But yeah, Texas BBQ sauce is the best. I don;t dig the Carolina mustard sauces. Even when eating pork I use a Texas style sauce.

I wish I had made a point of getting Ol' Micky Webb's recipe. He and the restaurant are long gone now. (the building is still there but owned by someone else now. I visited a few years ago when I was in Dallas for work. They did a good plate of food but I was hoping Micky was still there to tell him thanks for the good high school job).

Why people automatically assume smaller independent joints have better food than chains I have no idea. A vanishingly small number do anything different than buy from the same suppliers on lower discounts, use either the same or inferior equipment, and hire from the same labor pool. But that same smug cliqueish idiocy that makes middle schoolers hate "cool" bands who become popular carries on into adulthood I guess.

And I'm not a snob--I had one of the best olive burgers I ever had in my life last weekend at the Nip n Sip Drive In in Lansing, MI. It was an ACTUAL drive-in where you order through a tinny speaker & they bring the tray to your car. It cost $2.90. Now THAT was good eating, along with battered onion rings & a root beer float. For 2 of us, it cost $9.58 including a $2.00 tip.

Heaven!

I don't begrudge those who like Logans--maybe I just had a shitty, lukewarm meal that time and it wasn't the norm. But for $30, I expected a whole lot better.

The secret is not difficult. Simple, high profit limited menu with kid appeal, at least a couple of available beers beyond basic macroswill, plus dozens of mainsail sized TVs for the jock wannabes and (pretend) usedtabes. License to print money.
