getting in and out of the car, so I didn't hear the whole things (two shows trashed it) but the gist was it was Reaganomics tax cuts warmed over with even fewer specifics, he had absolutely no idea how trade works in the real world, and, well, he was simply full of shit.
Special hilarity was had over his promises to increase coal production and use. Completely ignoring both the alternative energy industries producing large economic and employment growth (along with helping clean the air and water) and the simple fact that no one, even established electricity producers, actually wanted to use more coal if they didn't have to, he promised a grand new world of coal burning.
How did we get so far down this hole?

(989 posts)in the end, her plan will help them more than anything the Donald has to offer. But for a lot of those in the coal belt their own racism and bigotry has led them to buy into the meme that immigrants and trade have cost them their jobs.

(10,252 posts)pulled by the strings of his new handlers. His prepared speech was ridiculous and illogical. Which is a nice way of saying same tired old trickle down voodoo economics. Does this man even know that he has now been captured and is being used by the GOP wall St and corporate elite that he rants against? Probably not. All that matters to Trump is winning the prestige and bragging rights of getting elected. I feel so sorry for him. Really I do. Wish I could persuade him to take a long long ride with the Nuns on a Bus to open his heart and mind.

(17,314 posts)his B.S. yesterday, especially with all those protesters who were escorted out by security at various points.
But we know that being patient and civil is not Trump's true nature. The reactionary and cruel Donald will emerge once again real soon.

(7,816 posts)they really care about the middle class and income inequality. They point to stagnant wages as proof of dem failures. WHY DO JOURNALISTS AND DEM PUNDITS PRETEND THIS IS EVEN REMOTELY VALID ARGUMENT?
Why don't talk show hosts just laugh when these kinds of reality-challenged statements are made? Not only can we EASILY look at the history of the GOP with respect to minimum wage, unions, tax cuts, trickle down theory, safety nets, etc and compare the two parties...but now we have Trump's whole business-world history and campaign statements to add to it and Trump clearly EPITOMIZES the GOP trickle down addiction and billionaire-first philosophy. How can a statement stand that suggests that the sharkiest, most sociopathic billionaire who has no personal history of supporting the bottom 99% and who belongs to the party which rabidly opposes any break/help for the 99%...really do care now? And that the dems really don't care? it's amazing!
Good on NPR if they started to refute. Hope there were guffaws and ridicule mixed in
Richard Trumka's on the right track. Just extend the comment to the entire gop leadership who obstruct any effort to help workers, the poor, or middle class and it's a strong case because it's true.
