Seeing that officer sit at the little tables with that girl is the sort of community stuff that should be the norm. I recently watched a video of some cop going on a call about some kids being rowdy while playing basketball. Rather than being a dick he was respectful and even played a bit of basketball with them. It was nice to see it, and apparently, it worked pretty well because of the whole mutual respect thing. I'm sure that stuff happens all the time, but it definitely not the dominate culture in the police departments around the country. Which is really unfortunate.
