Since when did artists put their names on police sketches?

Maybe this is normal, but this is the first time I've noticed it. A sketch has been released for the shooter in the NY imam shooting. It is signed "Benowitz." Is it normal for police artists to sign their work? Seems strange to me.

One little difference is that this signature is particularly artistic. I guess that's why it stands out to me.
