out there and then see what the reaction is. If people find it outrageous then they just say it was sarcasm.

But this lays out the steps to get to the sarcasm.

The point is, we cannot have a President who will make inflammatory comments on a world stage and then try and back away from them. There is too much at stake for humanity to let this monster near it.

His statements are incoherent in that his policies do not connect with one another. The randomness of his thoughts means that there isn't a cohesive set of values and perspectives that create a political platform. I don't think he's ever really thought about what he believes.

He just wants to see himself on TV and in the papers.

You are absolutely right, liberal N proud, that Donald Trump must be utterly defeated. The future of the world would be jeopardized were he to become the president.

The hard-right's hatred of all things Clinton is far more forceful and ingrained in Republicans than their support for Donald Trump will ever be. That hatred has been fostered over decades whereas Mr. Trump is a blip in comparison. He won't be around for long and the deep devisions he's exposed in the Republican Party were there before his candidacy. He's been the catalyst for the acceleration of the GOP's fracturing.

Yesterday, I golfed with a neighbor with whom we are very good friends. He's usually very soft-spoken and thoughtful. But he's a Republican and he couldn't stop with his Hillary bashing. The strangest part of his tirades was that most of his points were not true. It was as if every issue he tried to make was lifted straight from the entertainment network known as Fox News. It was particularly disconcerting because he's an exceptionally intelligent and kind gentleman. In any event, at the end of the round, he acknowledged that Secretary Clinton will be our next president. More importantly, I kicked his ass at golf!

Don't you see how many horrific comments he makes acceptable for future racists, running for president, to use?

It seems plain that your rhetorical question recognizes the cancers of racism, bigotry and hatred that infect our nation. So let me make this suggestion.

In order to cure a disease, one has to first acknowledge its existence. What Donald Trump may be doing inadvertently is exposing the breadth and depth of those problems. No longer can the GOP hide their base's basest beliefs; Mr. Trump's supporters have shown the country who they really are. This fracturing of the GOP will weaken it for years to come.

When Mr. Trump is trounced, and I think this will be a massive debacle for the Republicans, it will show that his divisiveness, fascism and nativistic behavior doesn't work in American politics. All future candidates will have to reckon with this historic defeat and understand that uniting Americans will help our country increase its greatness. And, not incidentally, garner more votes.

Only through knowledge, education and positive experiences can we make this a better country. Now that we can see the scope of these problems, perhaps a positive path can be charted by President Hillary Clinton.
