We all remember President Thomas Dewey.

You know, the guy who trounced Harry Truman in 1948.

Perhaps the stories are apocryphal, but even my own mother told one about being at an Election Night gathering that evening with people utterly confident Truman would be out and Dewey soon in the White House, but had somehow neglected to vote.

We do NOT want to live with a similar historic photo of Trump giddily displaying a newspaper with a headline about the First Woman President. So even if his polling numbers drop to ten percent of the vote don't take her win for granted. To go that low there might have to be an incredible surge in votes for Stein and Johnson, which would be a very different problem for Clinton.

I think right now it's a good thing that we Democrats are prone to handwringing and worrying, even when we're ahead. I don't care if HRC is up by 25% in November, I'll be ensuring my ballot is submitted and firmly believe Democrats will be out in full force, regardless.

7. I am not comparing either of the two running today

to either of the two candidates running in 1948. And I am quite aware of the flaws in the polling back then.

My point is not to be complacent, that's all.

And I've seen the photo. Not old enough to have seen it in person.

Oh that's right they really didn't have those, nor updated individual level GOTV databases, ads directed by individual activity and social media.

We need to rely on neighborhood potlucks and radio speeches to stop this travesty reoccurring!

9. Hopefully all those dismissing

The upcoming election will not be sitting down to a crow buffet. If I recall my history correctly Dewey enjoyed a greater lead in September of '48 then Mrs. Clinton has now.

Everytime I see someone commenting about how this election is in the bag and we have nothing to worry about my blood chills another degree. Many of the same people who assured everyone that Trump would drop out or never be nominated are the same ones predicting a historic landslide.

I much prefer to be overcautious than overconfident.
