Given Trump's monstrous vanity and egomania, it could be the real reason he doesn't want people to see his tax returns is they will expose another of his grandiose fantasies (lies) about himself: In actuality, he is no where near Billionaire. Isn't that the conclusion of those who have examined his finances? That Trump is in many ways a failed businessman?Trump could rationalize paying little or no taxes. He could spin and lie about non-existent charitable contributions.
But its difficult to lie about net worth.

and/or
2. It shows he paid little to no tax
and/or
3. It shows his ties to Russia or places like that
and/or
4. It shows how little he gave to charity
and/or
5. It provides information that could expose him to a lawsuit by folks he ripped off/didn't pay
and/or
6. It may reveal things that others could connect to reveal tax evasion or something like that
and/or
7. It is more confirmation that he's stinking rich - which may be a turn off when Americans see that on a tax return rather than a gold plated throne in Trump Towers
On the other hand, his handlers would ask "what good would releasing your tax return do?" - not much. So, they're cutting their losses on something they cannot win

(1,265 posts)Not original with me, but really, the steaks, the neckties, the school, the cheesy TV shows, and all of that seems awfully nickel-and-dimey for a real high-roller.

(28,795 posts)somebody here linked a story either from the WashPOst or the NYT, in which he was forced to admit about thirty lies he told, many having to do with the small size of his actual net worth
that's why he sued OBrien, and the case got thrown out of court
here....so easy:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/2016-election/trump-lies/
just a smidge....can't believe they're not focusing on this. Hillary surrogates must know this is out there. it's their JOB to highlight his serial mendacity.
The lawyers confronted the mogul with his past statements and with his companys internal documents, which often showed those statements had been incorrect or invented. The lawyers were relentless. Trump, the bigger-than-life mogul, was vulnerable cornered, out-prepared and under oath.
Thirty times, they caught him.
Trump had misstated sales at his condo buildings. Inflated the price of membership at one of his golf clubs. Overstated the depth of his past debts and the number of his employees.
I'm going to read the thing now....it brings great pleasure. amazing how those idiots he ran against didn't have any sort of oppo research to find this stuff....it's all there, was there a year ago, and NONE of them tried to go after him on it the way it's happening now. morons.

I try and be truthful, Trump said. Im no different from a politician running for office. You always want to put the best foot forward.
number two:
A very clear and visible side effect of my lawyers questioning of Trump is that he (was revealed as) a routine and habitual fabulist, said Timothy L. OBrien, the author Trump had sued.
number three:
He did not answer those questions.
