Reporter’s Tweets from Within Crowd at Trump Rally Are Raw, Powerful and Shocking

https://goodmenproject.com/featured-content/trump-rally-tweets-jared-yates-sexton/

Jared Yates Sexton texted the following from within the crowd at Donald Trump’s rally in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 18th. This was Trump’s first rally since his staff shakeup which put Stephen Bannon of Breitbart in charge. Sexton’s powerful reporting should give pause to anyone who thinks Trump’s campaign is simply another excercise in conservative Republican politics.

If we have learned anything from history, it is this. Movements like Trump’s can sweep nations as divided as ours into the darkness of violent authoritarian dictatorship. Think it can’t happen here? Think again. And equally challenging? Sexton’s chillingly simple observations reveals Trump’s long list of scapegoats. These are the people he will blame should he fail to win the White House. Its a list which includes millions of us.

Which raises two questions: 1) What happens if he wins? And equally concerning: 2) What happens if he loses?

Trumps's crowds have been filled with violent, racist, and sexist Hillary haters from the get go. Does no one remember his zealots punching protestors since about day one? They have been screaming "lock her up" since their convention but they have been thinking that - and worse since the get go. Certainly his new campaign organization won't make things any better - but they could hardly make it any worse.

Will keep the Secret Service and FBI very busy the next 80-90 days.
And, the Republican Congressional "leadership" should be ashamed of themselves for not speaking out. Their silence will be their undoing, and deservedly so.

“If you thought Trump couldn't be more terrifying, welcome to The Age of Breitbart.”

“Listen. This was a different Trump product. A dangerous one. And his supporters are ready for violence.”

“He kept crowd's attention, which he's never been able to do. He crafted a very dangerous narrative and they swallowed it whole.”

“And there's the first death threat in awhile.

... that a group like the Nazis could never seize power here.

I'm convinced that Trump will lose, but it's a bit too close for comfort.

This loss of perspective happens every time something like this pops up--while it's happening.

Yes, it could happen here. Fascism is and always has been attractive to a significant portion of our electorate, though it's considered a bad word and they don't know it about themselves.

BUT it can't happen now because by far most people are just plain doing too well and because our constitution as written and interpreted is the protector of our rights it was intended to be.

Itm, literate people should not be mislead by the media's focus on "if it bleeds" coverage of the roilings of a muckraking that will pass.

We will likely be repairing the damage from Donald Trump for years and years.
