For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. A tropical wave located about 400 miles east-southeast of the
Leeward Islands is producing widespread cloudiness and
thunderstorms. Conditions are marginally conducive for gradual
development while the disturbance moves west-northwestward to
westward at 15 to 20 mph. Environmental conditions are expected to
become more conducive for a tropical depression to form by late this
week when the system is forecast to move near Hispaniola and Puerto
Rico, and the southeastern and central Bahamas. An Air Force Reserve
Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate this system
later this morning. Interests in the central and northern Lesser
Antilles, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico should monitor the
progress of this system.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...60 percent
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...60 percent

(254 posts)We tend to get them through the back door (after they come up through the Gulf). They can still be awfully mean though. I remember going days without power after one, and another one took out my biggest oak, which barely missed taking out the house.
Yep, I'll be watching.

(18,318 posts)But the three witches of 2004 kept our families tied down for days, one after the other. My older brother's tale from where his family lives on eastern shore of Lake Santa Fe:
We were hunkered down with lantern lights when we heard a multi-engine prop plane swoop low over the house. It went away, but came back again. We thought it was an old Neptune bomber hurricane plane out of NASJAX that was in trouble, and was looking for a place to ditch in Santa Fe. So I ran outside in the middle of the storm to see if I could do something. As I was looking up into the sky, I noticed my roof fluttering, making a sound like those big "engines." Went back inside to wait it out.

I think this wiil be more of a rain event than anything else unless it stalls in the GOM ad then all bets are off
malaise
(269,157 posts)it's currently moving at 21mph - if it doesn't slow down it will not have time to strengthen.

that NC ranked right at the top for hurricane hits over time.

(2,679 posts)Looks like it missed the exit and is doing a U turn to Disney that or it just wants to mess with my head, if it follows that red track. Granted it looks like it would be going over Gainesville, but if the U turn happens sooner that would not be good for O town.
