_____The Washington Post recently ran a piece this week about the state of Obamas campaign with the lede, Is it time for Democrats to panic?
Not in the month of June.
In June 1992, Ross Perot led the presidential pols with 39 percent to then-President George H. W. Bushs 31 percent with Bill Clinton trailing behind at 25 percent. Likewise, in June 1980, President Jimmy Carter led Ronald Reagan 39 percent to 32 percent, and in June 2000, John Kerry led President George W. Bush 49 percent to 43 percent.
Im all for thoughtful analysis of President Obamas reelection efforts along the lines of John Heilemanns Hope: The Sequel for New York magazine or Ryan Lizzas The Second Term for the New Yorker, but not this Obama made a gaffe and didnt cry on command, hes doomed story arcs that are permeating the web this week.
Repeat after me: It is only June, calm down. Obama has plenty of time. And if anyone should know that, it ought to be these folks making all these complaints. Arent they the very people who didnt give Obama much of a shot at becoming president anyway?

(20,450 posts)No one is paying attention. People don't start listening until the conventions and after Labor Day.
Relax the emotions, but let's get to work, Democrats rather than sitting around crying and lamenting about what *COULD* happen!
The Wielding Truth
(11,415 posts)factor. It's been a time to panic since the country elected B%** twice. Methodical mobilization is mandatory and funds need to be raised. The truly restoring policies of Obama have been stymied by the Right. If anyone thinks there is nothing to worry about you will be the one sitting in a no speech zone when we evade Iran and blow away thousands on a scatter-brained religious pre-nuclear fantasy quest.
If you are in terminal mode and the doctor says don't worry. Run to another doctor. These people and their pushers are frightening because they are sold on the lies. They are addicted to them. If we relax, their obsession with false hate will destroy our American democracy. They have already damaged it almost beyond repair. If panic gets us moving then I say PANIC.

The Wielding Truth
(11,415 posts)giant needs to be agitated. Anguish is what we will have if we don't panic now. I agree that is is not productive to let panic rule and scatter or freeze our efforts but I see too many Democrats and others sliding to acceptance of fait de complete and I want them to be stirred, panicked if need be.
Is the desire there to step up and reclaim democracy? Will the masses stand and work and march and win with out urgency? I think they need to hear the word Panic . I think that panic should have stopped the corrupt appointments to the Supreme court. That panic should have caused the Gore election to have been corrected. I think that we have calmed ourselves out of a civil country. More panic with your compassion and intelligent desire for accuracy is what is needed . IMHO. It is past time to BANG THE

(23,500 posts)#1. Citizens United means we're going to be massively outspent. We'll never know how much they'll spend or where the money is coming from. They could easily outspend us by 10 to 1.
#2. Look who is sitting in Senator Kennedy's old seat. Elisabeth Warren MAY be able to beat him. Maybe. It shouldn't even be close, except for the corporate millions backing Brown.
#3. 2010. We held the Senate, and we did OK in California, but everywhere else it was a disaster.
#4. Voter Suppression in all the states that the GOP controls, including the ones they took over in 2010.
#5. Wisconsin.

(86,005 posts)register, be active, help get folks to the polls, support justice . . . but, don't panic.
Being prepared, motivated, and active isn't the same as panicking. No need for the hand-wringing or the manic, public panic. Neither does anyone any good at all.
