So I was walking my bike along the sidewalk in DC and you'll never guess who I met.

John Oliver! I did not waste his time with small talk. Just asked if I could take a picture and said thank you. He said, "Very nice to meet you," which I thought was gracious considering I had just interrupted him for entirely selfish reasons.

Anyway, thought you all might appreciate this.

I ran into Kerry King (guitarist for Slayer) when we were both in line waiting to see Bill Maher.

But since he wasn't working, I basically gave him a head-nod to say "I know you!" and he gave me one back as if to say "Yeah, you do!"

If he was representing, it would've been different. But he was just out on the town with his wife, trying to take in a show like the rest of us.

Same thing as when I saw Oscar Isaac at Starbucks at 5:30 in the morning. Head-nod and a half-grin, and he gave one back, and that was it. Dude's just trying to get a cup of coffee, ya know?

And now I'm done name-dropping.

trashing US charter schools.

Diane Ravitch on John Oliver's expose . .

"Fraud is a feature of deregulation, not a bug. When no one is looking, some people steal. Not everyone steals, but many do. That is why Ohio, Florida, Michigan, and California are scamming taxpayers. No one is demanding accountability. Politicians get paid off by charter friends, then cripple any effort to oversee them. Ohio and Michigan spend $1 billion a year to subsidize charter schools, which are lower-performing than public schools."

Jeez, why does it take a comedian to raise this issue?

Where are the Democrats?

He was covering the massive protests in the capitol for the Daily Show after Scott Walker declared war on public employees. He took the time to let my son get a picture with him (my son had JUST gotten his teaching degree the month before and was with the protestors). I don't have the picture anymore, but I remember my son telling me that John Oliver was a great guy and that meeting him made an awful week much better.

Very, very fun!!! One of the delights of DC, I found, was running into the oddest people right there on the doggone street (or on the mall). I never had a camera, but oh, the selfies I could have nabbed!

His delightful treatment of you has rubbed off on the rest of us--I'll keep watching!

You're such a fanboy. That is so cool, man!

I saw Bruce Willis this evening, and for over an hour kept silent though I wanted to bust out into his song Respect Yourself or the Moonlighting theme song. He's in town for his new movie here in OH.

Thank you for posting the fun photo!
