One thing I noticed, they made a monument to him. I am sick of no Democrat monuments. I know Franklin Roosevelt didn't want one but it is had to take his small statue with Fallon. Reagan has all kinds of monuments.

3x life size plus the base which is humongous. Here's a pic I took last week on my iPhone:

p.s. We were in New Orleans a few days to visit relatives in MS and took a drive to Baton Rouge and Lafayette to see if we could help. Well, we couldn't, directly anyway, and didn't see any flooded neighborhoods, but everyone we talked to in Baton Roughe and Acadiana, which I gather is the area around Lafayette, had a harrowing story of relatives who narrowly escaped and/or got their houses wrecked or damaged and were busy tearing out sheet rock with the help of neighbors. Quite a few didn't have flood insurance apparently because there hadn't been floods in those areas. We heard that a lot. New Orleans on the other hand was completely spared. A real jewel and boy did we eat well. :-D

The only real rain we encountered was an unbelievable torrent about 30 miles south of Hattiesburg in MS. I tried to keep driving while the visibility dropped to zero and finally pulled off for about a half hour when the car in front of me pulled away and I was left following a pickup with its lights off.

but it's ignorance built into the system by repugs due to their political power, state- and congress-wide, 'education' lacking decent science, political science and history curricula. AND, of course, their powerful corps who just won't contribute to real solutions.

Throw the bums OUT!

This is much like the same thing you posted earlier that you later self-deleted. You were wrong then, and you're wrong now.

What do you have against these people? Do you just not want them to get federal aid or something? What is your axe that you insist on grinding here?

I dare you to find one quote from anyone in Louisiana advocating the abolition of FEMA.

Some people in disaster areas vote against their own well being and the well being of others.

Some. Not all.

That's them conceding their humanity.

No reason for me to concede mine.

Blacks seems to be scantily featured on the national news feeds while the floods were happening. The fact that blacks are there is a phony retort as far as I am concerned. At least FEMA under Obama will likely treat the victims fairly.

Lousyana receives much money in federal taxes than it pays. I spent time in the service in that crappy state. And I remember at Ft Polk that the soldiers were treated like crap by the locals. I just remember how my fellow soldiers were treated in Leesville at the time. They used to call it Diseaseville. And every soldier trained at Fort Polk (we called it Fort Puke) ended up in Vietnam.

The locals sure liked the federal money. But they did not like the soldiers.

14. I Used To Work In Government Programs. A Huge Majority On Aid Are Caucasian.

Aug 2016

The problem with the GOP meme is that the largest recipients of all government programs are caucasian. Sure welfare has a number of minorities but the are NOT a majority by any means. The problem is that people voting against their own interests because of erroneous perceptions and they hurt themselves and everyone else.

The GOP meme that tax dollars are going to the undeserving and minorities is totally false. Saying that undocumented workers get all the benefits is even a bigger falsehood. Of course it serves a purpose.

If we had a GOP President with a GOP Congress FEMA and other important agencies would not exist to help disaster victims. They would be under private contractors with less funding. And in fact I would bet the FEMA budget has been reduced over time.

I simply do not know how you wake people who are so deeply committed to their prejudices.

was with a real estate agent by a new income based housing unit and he said he had seen a new Mercedes over there. I replied that it was someone dropping off the cleaning lady. Really. It was so easy.

I was working as an employment program specialist helping welfare clients get employed. Reagan actually started a process that killed that program. It eventually became TANF under Clinton. He made a huge mistake on that one.

Reagan was such a proficient liar.

22. Temporary Assistance To Needy Families Replaced The Original Law.
Mon Aug 29, 2016, 08:11 PM
Aug 2016

Under the original welfare law there was no time limit for assistance. And under the WIN program work pay had to be enough to get the person off welfare and keep them off. The job had to be stable enough. Training could be up to a year. Day care and some other support mechanism could be paid for during training period.

Under TANF assistance was limited to a certain time frame for life. Could never apply again if need assistance. The work requirement program was changed to any work even if the work did NOT sustain a family. There were sanctions for not looking for and there was NO training. Essentially it was about forcing a woman off welfare into a menial low paying job with NO future. The work requirement was just harassment. Barriers to employment were not to be addressed.

Plus. The Congressional representatives who NOW want all the aid they can get voted against Sandy funding. Part of it was the fact that that area was a more blue area of the country.

I was a farmer and was really disgusted with my fellow farmers voting republican all the time. At the 2000 Texas Democratic Convention, my first, I was standing outside smoking and this guy walks up and we started talking. As it was it was Jim Turner ,US Congressman from Texas 1st district. One helluva a nice guy and I told him to quit voting for farm givaways since they did not vote Democrat. He lost two years later. (Bummer) The last congressman I can remember of that district is Larry Gomer

They're greatly improved with Obama as president, but still too much red tape once the waters recede and people start looking to them for help in the basics of beginning to put their lives back together.
