(2 posts)Penn did have me going a bit, just a bit. He cheated, but that's what magicians do. But Penn's an Honest Cheat.
Penn looks like he had cancer. Wouldn't be surprise to learn the setup and makeup was designed to him look like he's dying within the year. I think that's on the edge of how far, a cheat should go.
I followed a link to where he discussed the diet and the book he's written and pimped. But he's an honest pimp and he puts up front the standard reason by skeptics about 'research' where n=1.
All is forgiven.

(111,274 posts)My little patch of NM has plenty of Muslim immigrants. So far, I haven't seen outward hostility, I mostly see them in the local health food store or in the international grocery in my area. Either people here are more polite or brown skin is just the norm so nobody bothers to look any closer. I do see the women disappear every time there's a big terrorist attack, their husbands sent out to do the shopping. I find this horribly sad.
The first outspoken atheist I ever knew was a kid from Egypt I went to high school with. I doubt he was outspoken back home, but southern Baptists didn't seem to scare him as much.

(1,375 posts)I sometimes inwardly cringe when I receive minor reminders that, yes your old now. I was watching a video talking about Back to the Future when he went back in time 30 years and the movie is now 31 years old. Little things like that make me feel old and to top it all off Gene Wilder died today, giving me another punch in the gut of my youth.

(11,843 posts)And if anything makes me wistful for regaining temporal losses, it's things like that gut punch you mentioned. Then again, a Russian billionaire is talking about sending small probes to a nearby star at 20% of lightspeed and it's not fantasy. If I'm lucky, I could still be alive when we get close up data from another star system.

(20,692 posts)which is why they put us all first and have no need of any gods. Great that he did that to set an example of compassion.
Clear thinking is easier when you're not propping up imaginary gods and irrational dogma.

But he seems willing to be personally kind, and that's always a nice evolution to watch

Hating any group of people is stupid; for religion, color, anything else.
Penn's Libertarian shtick irritates the hell out of me. People suffer immensely because the U.S.A. is not a social democracy with a strong safety net, and it's mostly because so many people refuse to pay for the education or medical care of groups they hate, even when that means their own education or medical care will be substandard.
Yet I kick and recommend.
As the consequences of global warming become increasingly difficult, we will have to learn how to deal with refugees. Some of those refugees will be our own fellow U.S. citizens.
