Lennon's assassin, Mark David Chapman, denied parole for the 9th time.

Lennon killer gets parole rejected for NINTH time because of the 'celebrity seeking' nature of his crime

Mark David Chapman, who murdered former Beatles legend John Lennon, has been denied parole for a ninth time, New York state prison officials said on Monday.

'I can confirm that he has been denied,' a prison spokeswoman said.

The denial comes two years after Chapman's last parole request was rejected.

In its decision addressed to Chapman, the parole panel wrote, 'The Board of Parole commends your acceptance of responsibility and vivid characterization of your crime as premeditated, selfish and evil',

But despite noting Chapman's 'network of support' and his strong 'institutional records and rehabilitative efforts,' the panel concluded, 'In spite of many favorable factors, we find all to be outweighed by the premeditated and celebrity seeking nature of the crime. From our interview and review of your records, we find that your release would be incompatible with the welfare of society and would so deprecate that seriousness of the crime as to undermine respect for the law.'

Lennon, who would be 75 if he were still alive today, was gunned down by Chapman on December 8, 1980 at his apartment building near Manhattan's Central Park.

2. It would seem that Yoko likely doesn't want him out, again.

No doubt she is consulted, at some level, every time this guy comes up for parole.

John likely wouldn't have wanted him executed, but this was such a cold blooded execution, John just might think a lifetime of isolation isn't too much punishment.

10. Um, no. Mr. Lennon's wishes, if we knew them, do NOT outweigh the need

....to protect society from someone who committed and may yet again commit pre-meditated murder.

I note the denial was couched as it should be: "celebrity seeking."

We already have enough murderous celebrity seekers.

He can never adequately pay for the damage he did.

But not once in the last 51 years would I not have able to tell you where this little scrap of paper was.

The Beatles only appearance in Minnesota, August 21, 1965 as Met Stadium. Seems like yesterday.
(BTW the ticket cost $5.50 - the most expensive available for the concert.)
