http://bipartisanreport.com/2016/09/02/trumps-vp-pick-caught-in-bigoted-tirade-demands-no-gay-journalists-details/In a right-wing think tank journal entitled Indiana Policy Review, for which Mike Pence was both the president and a contributor for several years in the 90s, some of Pences more extreme views are written for voters to see. One such article from December of 1993 entitled The Pink Newsroom is especially terrifying. In it, Pence argues that LGBTQ folks shouldnt be allowed to work as journalists without being forced to identify themselves as gay publicly, since their LGBTQ status would surely create a conflict of interest when writing about politics.
Trumps speech at the Republican National Convention in which he promised to protect LGBTQ citizens means little in the face of choosing a man to be a heartbeat away from the presidency who once wrote things like this:
As we understand the nature of both the political and scientific debate, the demand is that gaydom be elevated from a pathological condition or mere sexual preference to the status of one of the several natural human divergences like hair or skin color.
In case anyone missed it, Mike Pence wrote that being gay is a pathological condition, or a mental illness. Did Donald Trump really believe the gays would be okay with that?

It's not like it's a rare event for republicans to be LGBTQ.
A preview of Diaper Dave Vitter would have been interesting.
It's not like morals are important to republicans.

an adulterer.

spending nights in the White House as he pretended to be a reporter?

.... the more somebody complains about those nasty nasty hot sweaty gay men and
all those dirty dirty things that they do the more I tend to think that they are either
gay or really tempted by "the gays."
But I love that Trump picked Pence because Trump already has lost the black, hispanic,
and female vote and so by picking Pence the GLBT vote is gone too.

(53,959 posts)Despite many gains by my people, this type of bigotry is still very acceptable on the right, and passable with even a few on the left. It does show how engrained bigotry is in the Trump campaign and how little the rights of minority Americans are of no consequence to them.

(89,250 posts)that was meant to be kind of sarcastic.
but thinking about it a little more this really is how they feel. the way trump thought it was just so great that the audience applauded when he criticized muslims for killing people for being gay. how gays should just be so happy that someone doesn't think it's ok to kill them.

(1,290 posts)Honestly I'm even more scared of Pence than Trump. He distills all of The Donald's hatred into targeted fury at LGBTQ people. There's no telling what he would do if he had power.
