Trump and the African American community

So Trump went to an African American church and spewed a load of bullshit.

No sane person believed one word that came out of his mouth.

He didn't gain a single vote from his audience.

But in reality, his audience wasn't the people in that church. It was whites in the suburbs whom he thought might buy the shit he was selling and may have thought, "Maybe he's not such a bad dude after all."

Is there anyone, ... anyone, on DU who thinks this phony prick was really talking to black people? And is there any white, brown, or yellow person that didn't understand he was out there peddling shit?

African-American community? Saying 'everybody's going to have a great job', doesn't make it so.

Worse than trying to give some assurance to suburban white voters that maybe he's not an outright bigot, I think he wants the opportunity to remind white voters: "All the black and brown people vote Democratic."

I remember the 1968 Nixon/Humphrey race, which employed Nixon's "Southern Strategy" to use the civil rights upheaval to get white Southern voters to abandon the Democratic Party. In my hometown in SC the big joke for white men who saw someone with a Humphrey bumper sticker was to say "Did you see what some n***** put on your car?"
You have no idea how thrilling it is for me to see SC hitting the toss-up category in some polls. LBJ said signing the '64 Civil Rights Act would lose the South for a generation; it looks like it's been more like 50 years.

Who knows when the hate/bigotry/ignorance will finally end? The younger generation of today seems to offer some hope, but who knows? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I hope we're around to see MLK's dream come into full bloom.

Are obituaries and birth statistics. I grew up in a very racist and homophobic Southern culture in the 60s and 70s.
My kids don't really understand that race and sexual orientation were ever that big a deal.
And my grandchildren, hopefully, won't even know of it except from the history books.

If only tolerance would spread through our entire country. I believe that the younger generation offers hope.

The man has been a racist idiot for years. This latest attempt at "outreaching" is just to reassure his base, and nothing more. In any case, most black Americans, as well as the majority of other minorities, will NOT be voting for that orange loudmouth, and he knows it.
