Clown Costume Wearers Will Be Arrested, Charged on the Spot Warns North Carolina Police

HeatStreet:

Masked figures have reportedly been spotted in North Carolina this week, with several separate incidents being reported since the weekend.

The latest incident involving a clown allegedly occurred on Tuesday morning, when police say a man wearing a “scary clown mask” and “red curly wig” disappeared into the woods after being chased by another man wielding a machete in the Greensboro, North Carolina area.

...snip...

Local police warned residents “although it is lawful to dress as a clown, given the heightened tensions about these entertainers, officials are discouraging ‘copycat’ behaviour by individuals who may find it humorous to mimic suspicious behaviour.”

The only way to stop a bad person with clown shoes is a good person with clown shoes?

That being said, I remember this, and there is definitely a parallel here...

I had a 2nd grader come up to me today and tell me he was scared that there are clowns in the woods near school and that he would be "taken" by the clowns.

If it is a joke it is stupid and it is having a bad effect on kids.

If there were a killer or molester I think he or she would want to blend in as opposed to be as obvious as a clown. Are there any missing children or murders?

I can't help but wonder if a little hysteria is at play but for safety's sake I'll assume these are real sightings. But it's really, really stupid if it is.

Thanks to the laws passed aimed at stopping the Klan.

There are exceptions for cold weather, safety, and costumes worn "in season". But none of the exemptions would fall in place here.
